This is one hell of a way to treat a WARTIME President
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 08:13 PM by Vinnie From Indy
If Obama stands for the audacity of hope, the GOP certainly stands for the audacity of hypocrisy and lies. It is astounding to watch these vicious, scurrilous attacks on President Obama on so many issues by the GOP and their legions of hatemongers in the media. It was not so long ago that any attacks on GW Bush were branded as unpatriotic, dangerous and perhaps seditious. We were ominously told by the White House Press Secretary to "watch what we say."

The GOP outdid itself today with their highly coordinated attack on President Obama for his recent decision to halt the building of a "missile shield" on Eastern European soil. From the greasy lips of Rush Limbaugh to the halls of Congress, right-wingers all read from the same script about how the President was incompetent, dangerous and perhaps seditious in regard to his foreign policy decision.

Are there no lies too big to tell for these merchants of hate?

One thing that is the shame of Democrats is that Rush Limbaugh is still broadcasting on Armed Services Radio. If our brave sons and daughters serving in the military heard any of OxyRush's show today, they were bombarded by The Fatman with insult after insult about their Commander In Chief. They were told that the CIC was dangerous, incompetent and perhaps seditious. Again, I ask if there is no member of Congress or anyone at the Pentagon that objects to these daily attacks on our President. How can any of that be good for our soldiers morale?

2. with all due respect...
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 08:22 PM by mike_c
...there are LOTS of things to criticize conservatives about, not the least of which is the utter wrong-headedness they bring to nearly every debate, but criticizing them for opposing a "war-time president," or criticizing them for dissenting at all, is equally wrong-headed.

I strongly opposed Bush when HE was a "war-time president," so I have to defend wingnuts' right to do the same. And frankly, we and they might disagree about many things, but dissent is the backbone of American political discourse. It's a good thing. What conservatives too often don't understand is that dissent should be encouraged, not suppressed. They might not get it, but we don't have to be like them in that respect.

5. I knew that without a sarcasm thingy that someone would offer this
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 08:24 PM by Vinnie From Indy
I apologize my sarcasm was too subtle for you and was not accompanied by the dripping sarcasm thingy. How do you put one of those up anyway?

I still think that Limbaugh is over the line and has been on the AFN far too long. There are plenty of other right iwngers that could host a show in his time slot. He has no birthright to broadcast on the network in perpetuity.

Apologies for taking your OP seriously!

It'll be interesting to see how many authoritarians crawl out of the woodwork to join this thread, though.

8. I think you missed the original poster's point
which was that the GOP pulled out all stops to try to silence criticism of Dubya when he was acting as a "wartime president", but now that Obama is in that role they have no qualms about bashing him every chance they get.

16. From what I gathered it was really more about criticizing them for hypocrisy
What I remember hearing from Limbaugh, Hannity, and the rest of the fucknut RW demagogues during the Bush presiduncy was it was unpatriotic, if not seditious to criticize a sitting "war time president" and that everyone should just get on board for the big win.

So it's really about serving their fucked up set of unidirectional standards back to them than it is about their dissent toward a "war time president".

3. We have troops in the field
and badmouthing their commander in chief only gives aid and comfort to the enemy.

13. It's a goose/gander thing.
For eight years we were told by "Real" 'Muricans how unpatriotic it was to say bad things about the President of the United States while we were at war and had troops in the field. Among the principal arguments was the notion that the troops would get all depressed hearing about how some unpatriotic, hippie-Americans were bad-mouthing their CIC, bringing down troop morale and that these demoralized troops would be too depressed to put forth their best fighting effort, leaving them endangered.

It was an argument so transparently weak and stupid it could only be sold, and bought, by Republicans.

11. They should get an hour of Olbermann for every hour of Limbaugh.
I think the service members would like Olbermann or Ed Schultz. This would be fair. The United States government can give equal time even if it is not required by law for other media.
