Where is all this going? Our country has had some very hard times, but

this current period seems to be as polarized and hateful as any I've seen in 62 years. The end of the 60s was bad, but not as bad and then we didn't have such miscreant idiots as Glenn Beck or as militantly callous and malicious manipulators as Limbaugh. Not to mention the hundreds who copy and/or try to top their ridiculous views.

People say Billy Sunday had a terrible influence on thousands, but

1. our real immigration problem is RUPERT MURDOCH and his
empire.

We desperately need Fox to be gone -- we need to kick this man and his *empire* to the curb. They add NOTHING to this country, and only foment trouble for anyone with an IQ higher than 12...

4. Hardly.
ACORN actually provides a service - registering poor people to vote.

The repuke hatred for ACORN stems from the fact that they register poor people to vote. And poor black people, which is the white repuke's biggest fear.

Fox 'News' lies constantly and foments violence and hatred. And that isn't any kind of 'service'.

7. Uh, no.
Lying is never a 'service'. It is undermining debate, knowledge, and, ultimately, democracy.

They taught us all we need to know. Dixie Chick their worthless asses.

9. That's ridiculous.
News programs should not be allowed to lie. Individual people can lie, but not when they have a platform.

That's what the Fairness Doctrine was about.

But it's obvious I'm wasting my typing fingers here. See ya!

them go after Olbermann? Or Rachel?

12. Support reinstating the Fairness Doctrine
Reagan knew exactly what he was doing when he repealed it.

3. The Death of the Right
More precisely, the end of the death grip of the "(John C.) Calhoun Conservative" base. The new incarnation of the Right has yet to appear.

There will still be some around for a long time, but their power base has cracked.

And they aren't going to go gracefully.

6. Their "ungracefulness" might pollute the country for anyone who
values as more dignified way of being human.

I am very worried for our country in at least the near term (next several years).

16. True, that
It's going to be messy -- but it won't be a bloodbath. Except for those who are unfortunate enough to get in the way of one of the tantrums thrown by these self-styled "Patriots".

11. Worse than the 60's? Where are the race riots, students getting gunned down etc?
For some reason, some DU'ers seem to make a fetish out of worrying about the worst.

It's getting there, however....

13. The end of the 60's featured mountains of body bags
corpses on campuses, cities on fire, a massive youth movement and calls from elected Republicans for the bloodbath to begin. Young men escaped to Canada, to Woodstock Nation, changed their names and fled their government. Yeah, just like last week, just like.

The loonies have always been around, but the free press operated as the sound engine of a great democracy. Now it's like the National Enquirer is considered a reputable news source. Plus the corruption of Congress via lobbyists is more blatant & more legal.

Also, my ex-mother-in-law (who I love) used to tell me it all started when the astronauts kicked up all that dust in the first moon landing. She also dyed her beer green for St. Paddy's Day :)

Keep the faith!
