| Norman Borlaug believed food was a moral right |
|
Where are the physicians and drug manufacturers who will say that health care is a moral right?
For the one who say Norman who? He is the man who created several hardy wheat hybrids that helped developing countries, mainly Pakistan and India, to be self sustained. He was described as the "father of the Green Revolution" in the 1960s and '70s. By most estimates, his work saved a billion people from starvation, and he later was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize, the Congressional Medal of Honor and many other accolades.
When Borlaug received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2007, he was one of only five people in history to receive that honor in addition to the Nobel Peace Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- along with Nelson Mandela, Elie Wiesel, Mother Teresa and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. I was lucky enough to be there the day he received that award.
