GOP Rep Who Suggested Bad D.C. Metro Service Hurt 9/12 Turnout Voted Against Metro Funding

No end to the tea party hilarity

You may have heard that GOP Rep. Kevin Brady, staunch tea partier, is protesting that the taxpayer-funded D.C. Metro didnt adequately prepare for the anti-government 9/12 rally. Hes even suggesting Metros failure to transport tea partiers may have hurt turnout.

A Democrat, however, points out to me that Brady voted against Federal funding for the very same Metro hes blaming for offering the tea partiers substandard service.

Soon after the 9/12 march, Brady released a letter he sent to D.C. Metro griping that it had failed to transport tea partiers to the protest. Brady said they were frustrated and disappointed that our nations capitol failed to provide a basic level of transit for them.

Bradys office complained about a train shortage. METRO did not prepare for Tea Party March! he tweeted. People couldnt get on, missed start of march. I will demand answers.

But earlier this year, Brady voted against the stimulus package. It provided millions upon millions of dollars for all manner of improvements to the D.C. Metro.

Every House GOPer, of course, voted against the stimulus. Still, its a real head-spinner to bash a government-run system failing to adequately serve an enormous anti-government protest after opposing government funding for it. Low hanging fruit, perhaps, but worth a quick laugh on a gray D.C. day

4. Oh, but that was deliberate, don't you see?
Those transit workers helped the libruls and deliberately didn't help the baggers. An evil plot, that.

6. This is so stupid
They cut down weekend service in the 80s when I lived there.

The only time the Metro adds extra service is when they are having official events on the Mall, like July 4.

9. You can pay for extra hours or trains.
I believe many of the bigger marathon/fundraiser events do exactly that when their events begin before or shortly after Metro's weekend hours of operation.

The tea-baggers could have easily made similar arrangements for the hours of their event but obviously prefer to play the victim.

7. He's right - at least a MILLION more teabaggers were unable to join up with the 'TWO MILLION' who
marched 100 MILES in freezing snowstorms and blinding hurricane force winds.

8. I seem to recall that other private groups have paid Metro to provide additional service
Groups holding marathons and such pay out money from their own budget to have Metro expand their hours and trains/cars in service.

Kevin Brady (who works in Washington) should have been aware of this and his groups should have contracted with Metro to provide increased rail traffic during the hours of their event.

Their failure to take the necessary steps to make sure travel logistics were in place is the reason the service was inadequate and they need to point their fingers inward vs. outward.

12. The Way GOP Does It
"But earlier this year, Brady voted against the stimulus package. It provided millions upon millions of dollars for all manner of improvements to the D.C. Metro."

More proof that government sucks, the way Republicans do it.
