From Bill O's show:
O’REILLY: But you know, I want that, Ms. Owcharenko. I want that. I want, not for personally for me, but for working Americans, to have a option, that if they don’t like their health insurance, if it’s too expensive, they can’t afford it, if the government can cobble together a cheaper insurance policy that gives the same benefits, I see that as a plus for the folks.

|
It may have come out sounding like it but I'm sure he'll come out with a retraction shortly, and an explanation of what he really meant. Guys like Billo don't suddenly develop empathy.

| 9. Maybe it's his inner Catholic guilt screaming at him? |
|
Last week, I seem to remember even that extremist Opus Dei asswipe Bill Donohue (of the "Catholic League") saying he was in favor of a public option. As John Lennon said in one of his last songs, "...strange days indeed"

Even though I'm a lapsed Catholic I always say I'm a liberal because the nuns did a fine job of hammering the Works of Mercy in to my head (feed the hungry, house the homeless, heal the sick, etc).

| 11. I believe the correct word is "demagogue." |
|
The term was coined by the Greek humorist Aristophanes to describe Cleon, who used populist positions to consolidate his power, then mis-used his power to get his city-state's ass kicked for all time and ever in the Peloponnesian War. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demagogy

|
He was the other one (besides Shep) who went off script during the Katrina coverage. I doubt Geraldo really gives a shit about promoting the right wing agenda. He only gives a shit about promoting Geraldo Rivera.

And he wants to claim some credit.
Of course he could just do what he usually does and lie about it later... I could be wrong. Second guessing a wing-nut is a mugs game.

Don't get too used to the idea of O'Loofah supporting govt. run health insurance.

He'll claim that he never said it. Stream-of-consciousness liars who make up "facts" to support their position don't even know what they said two minutes ago.

...someone had sold me a bad quarter. I was gonna flush it.
Are you sure?
EXIT QUESTION: Will his audience abandon him as a traitor or will they suddenly fall in line for the public option?
Ironically maybe we can race back to the Blue Dogs and say, "See! See! If O'Reilly can support it and keep an audience so can you...GET ON BOARD OR GET OUT OF THE WAY!"

|
And I've heard a conservative acquaintance complain about his populism in the past.
So maybe his support for a public insurance option shouldn't be so shocking.
Good for him.
Now, about that "Tiller-the-baby-killer" business...

| 26. I bet his next words were an attack on Obama though |
|
Like "I support a public option, but this thing Obama is proposing is a total Stalinist-Nazi government takeover that will kill everybody in their sleep" or something. As in, "we're reasonable, but Obama is nuts *and* lying to you".
On the other hand he might actually be on to something for once. I give it 95-1 odds.
