Sophia Bacting, 11, a sixth grade student at Parkway Middle School, sitting, gets a standing ovation after speaking to the La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board. She objected to the board's decision not to show the President's recent message to students in the school district. - K.C. Alfred/Union-TribuneLA MESA Parents, teachers and students told the La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board at a raucous meeting Tuesday night that they were disappointed and in some cases ashamed of the board's decision not to show President Barack Obama's education speech to students live last week.

Some angrily called for the resignation of the three board members President Penny Halgren and trustees Bob Duff and Rick Winet who voted to not show the speech Sept. 8, the day it aired, despite apologies and words from regret from the three.

The board Tuesday voted to formally accept their apologies.

There must be accountability for your actions; your tears of apology are a waste of time, said Fred Neubecker, a La Mesa resident and parent of two district students.

3. Decency still exists? Goodness.
Apologies be damned. I still want the resignations. These hysterics are not fit to make decisions for children.

4. Excellent. I'm glad the citizens are raising a stink. As for 11 y.o. Sophia...
... She's just gotten a good introduction to the power of speaking truth to power on the local level. :applause: to Sophia and her parents!
