ACORN scandal growing, third video made public
ACORN scandal growing, third video made public

The hits just keep coming for ACORN. Last week two undercover videos surfaced showing ACORN employees giving advice on how to avoid paying taxes and start up a prostitution ring with underage girls illegally smuggled into the U.S. This morning a third video was made public.

Filmaker James O'Keefe and aspiring journalist Hannah Giles posed as a pimp and prostitute and went to several ACORN offices. They were asking for low income housing loans and tax advice. The first video to be released was from ACORN's Baltimore office.

In the video the pair specifically say they wish to open a brothel. They also say in no uncertain terms that Giles began "working" as a prostitute at age 13, and that they will be importing 13 underage girls from El Salvador. They say the girls are under 16 years old. The ACORN employess in the video freely offer advice on how to skirt the law, and don't even blink when the undercover duo mention the ages of the girls they will be employing.

Next came a video from ACORN's Washington, D.C. office. It was basically a repeat performance of the Baltimore video. This morning the third video was made public showing ACORN giving the same advice in their New York City office. Coincidence? That's doubtful.

ACORN called the first video a "scam" and said that O'Keefe and Giles had failed in several other attempts at other ACORN offices. ACORN has not said at which offices the failed attempts occured, but obviously it wasn't in D.C. or New York City. One has to ask, could more videos be coming?

5. Dems do not need this crap.

..........ACORN is slated to receive $8.5 billion in stimulus money and had been put in charge of gathering information for the 2010 census. The U.S. Census Bureau broke ties with the activist group last week when the first videos surfaced.

“It is clear that ACORN’s affiliation with the 2010 census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 census efforts,” said Robert Groves, the census director.

The question is when will Congress finally admit there are serious problems inside ACORN and initiate an investigation of its own? Allegations of criminal wrongdoing have circulated around the group for years.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Rep. John Conyers-D MI, called for an investigation of ACORN in June, but then backed off, apparently under pressure.

Conyers told The Washington Times, "The powers that be decided against it." Who exactly are the powers that be? Maybe that should be investigated as well.

16. I am glad they were exposed. It is not good for a community
organization to have this type members. Not good for the Dem party either.

18. No, as an organization, I don't feel ACORN is EVIL. They're being swift-boated.
and far too many people WANT TO buy into the hype.

20. I think Acorn does is a great group but it
does seem that they have some bad apples. Until they are weeded out, Beck and the RW will have more fodder.

22. NO, the IDIOT Media gives them the spotlight. We should continue to support the Organization
and assist them in better quality controls.

Beck is an asshole and should not have an audience.

As Piece would might quip: Only in IDIOT America can charlatans make obscene profits telling LIES.

4. SCAM
The Videos are highly edited to make it look like these folks condone prostitution. This is just a high tech lynching of ACORN and the good work they do. ACORN has 300 affiliates and these morons find 5 maybe 6 people who mispeak or did not understand what the filmmakers were doing? LOL

I mean c'mon. The way the "filmmaker" was dressed...anyone could see this was just a set-up. I wil reserve judgement when the WHOLE truth comes out and the ENTIRE videos are released. But I will say this, my money is on that these volunteers thought this was a comedy routine and were just playing along.

6. Here is a hint...
The correct thing to do when someone says "Excuse me madam, I'd like to open up a brothel for myself and several pre-teen sex workers we shall be importing" is to say "Wait right here... *step out and CALL THE MOTHER FUCKIN POLICE!!!*

Chrissakes... those filmmakers sure were lucky to find the last 6 crooked folks at ACORN. I mean what are the odds really?

12. Yes, I would like to see them address how "rampant" the corruption is with ACORN?
Truth is, IMO, they are a large organization, and like all beasties, there's a number of corrupt players. The best you can hope for is to investigate and fire the law breakers, not trash the entire organization.

15. Agreed...
I mentioned doctoring the audio because I saw an ACORN representative on MSNBC this morning and he asserted that they feel the video was doctored.

If there are bad apples at the organization then they need to be dealt with so the good work can continue. And if there's been tampering with the video, then let those cow chips fall where they may,

32. What do you mean "we at Democratic Underground?"
Do you mean "we who arrived after the election of 2008 and have dubious bona fides?"

If so, fine. But if you presume to speak for others at DU, you're speaking out of turn and in ignorance. This topic will be discussed ad nauseam, and DUers will come down on all sides of it.

at least according to Fox. same filmakers!!

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,549903,00.html

Days after the release of hidden-camera videos led to the firing of four ACORN workers in Baltimore and Washington who assisted an independent filmmaker posing as a pimp to apply for an illegal housing loan for a brothel, a third video has surfaced showing ACORN workers offering the same kind of assistance at the organization's office in Brooklyn, N.Y.

As in their previous undercover stings, filmmaker James O'Keefe, 25, and partner Hannah Giles, 20, who posed as a prostitute, received advice from ACORN workers on how to launder their earnings and avoid detection from law enforcement officials while running a prostitution business.

"You have to find another name for it," an ACORN employee tells the pair seeking a mortgage in the Brooklyn office. "Honesty is not going to get you the house. You can't say what you do for a living."

30. You have to wonder if there are any more videos waiting to be released.
They seem to be doling the videos out sporadically to maximize their media attention. Also, I wonder if they have any videos of ACORN people throwing them out of their offices. If so, will they have the integrity to release them, also?

Good on the two of them for exposing immoral idiots, I hope they go to jail for what they did on tape. Beyond disgusting.
