1. K&R
I hate to say it, but I don't think it's too far into the future when serious violence breaks out at one of these lunatic gatherings.

3. OMG !
These are the same people that nailed Jesus on the cross!

They want to defend the Constitution, at least they say they do, and then they treat this poor gentleman who was carrying a sign that said only "PUBLIC OPTION NOW" and many acted like a vigilante crowd that wanted to severely hurt the poor guy?

Do they really believe in free speech? Do they truly believe in our Constitution? Are they really so enamoured of insurance companies, even at the expense of their own children and blood? Or are they simply against Barack Hussein Obama, our first black President? Do they really believe he is the Manchurian candidate that won?

4. He's heroic, and that was horrifying -
Imagine - he needed police protection to walk with his sign on the Mall in the capitol of the United States because others did not like that he was stating his opinion.

Imagine that.

Without those officers - whoever they were - he would have, without any doubt, been physically attacked. You could taste their bloodlust, their ignorant rage, their great courage just so long as they're part of a gang.

I saw this in the American South in the 1950s - ugly angry crowds of white adults screaming at cops who were escorting little black girls to school. Their crazed, twisted, screaming faces are still fresh in my mind.

Little girls.

A man with a sign.

K&R, but I nearly cried watching that video, and I could very easily cry now. I'm hearing in my head a song about 9/11, by Springsteen, "My City In Ruins"...............

5. I have the same feeling Tangerine LaBamba
I thought of those small black girls down in Arkansas and Alabama when I watched that. It is heartbreaking.

6. Do you also feel -
as I do - that it's hopeless?

That's why I still want to cry. Because nothing has changed, just the excuses are dressed up, made to look "respectable." They're protesting something having to do with the government - it's not all driven simply by their hate.

Except they're liars. Their cover is bogus. It's all hate.

And I am still fighting back the tears, kentuck. Nothing has changed. Not where it counts. Nothing.............................

7. For every action, there is an opposite like reaction.
I feel like I may need to take a few days off of DU and meditate on peace and goodness. I can feel the heat from the hatred even as I sit here in front of this PC. I would like my few friends to know that I have not gone away, for whats it's worth. Perhaps there is a Guiding Hand?

8. Same here -
I spent the entire day away from the computer. A good thing.

I'm not about to quit DU, but it's time to back away from Current Events. We can't do anything about any of it - I am convinced - and it's starting to wear on me.

See you around, kentuck. Stay safe...................

9. That poor man.
I have no doubt that had it not been for that police escort, he would have been physically attacked.

This is all just too much. My heart aches.

Your post reminded me of an older post by rurallib:

Where have I seen the faces of the town hall protesters before?
Posted by rurallib on Sat Aug-08-09 02:17 PM

It has been bothering me. Someplace in the dark recesses of my mind I have seen these faces before. The faces twisted in anger and hate, mocking and screaming insane chants.
Last night it hit me. I was a boy in front of the TV every night after school watching history unfold in Little Rock. I remember watching unbelieving as kids a bit older than me had to have phalanxes of federal troops cut through the crowds just to go to school.
So I went to youtube this morning to find some videos about the Little Rock Nine. I have watched many this morning looking for the one that captured the ugliness of the faces of the pro-segregation protesters. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for but this video probably captures those days best.
This video has quite a cast of characters - a politician pandering for votes, a president fearful to 'go too far', the incredibly courageous students and a few who stood up.
In no way am I comparing Little Rock to the health care situation, although I do view health care as a civil rights issue. What I wanted to illustrate was the face of hatred let loose.
