Former McCain and Bush strategist vows to make Joe Wilson pay
Former Bush and McCain strategist Mark McKinnon wants the congressman who shouted at Obama out of office and out of his party—and he's donating $1,000 to his opponent.

Make Joe Wilson pay.

And by pay, I mean beat his sorry ass at the polls and send him to the private sector. That is the only way to change the political discourse in America today. Because as long as louts like Joe Wilson can spout off and call the president a liar and get rewarded with reelection, then louts will continue to spout off. And we will continue to claw our way to the very bottom of the political swamp.

It’s unclear yet what the reaction is in South Carolina. There is a newspaper poll that suggests broadly South Carolinians think the incident could have a negative impact on the state.

On the other hand, anecdotally there appears to be plenty of evidence that many of Wilson’s constituents in the 2nd Congressional District actually support his odious behavior.

I’m a Republican, but I’d rather have a Democrat in Congress who I may disagree with but who has some fundamental character that Wilson lacks

2. This is the same guy who...
... was working for the McCain campaign. During the primaries he told McCain that if Obama won the Dem nomination, he'd have to quit the campaign. He said he'd still support McCain, but he didn't want to be a part of knocking down the first Black person who had a serious chance of winning the presidency.

And when Obama won, he quit McCain's campaign just like he said.

Yes.. a Republican with a brain and a conscience.

5. I applaud Mckinnon - but with this proviso
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 06:06 PM by ashling
I read this post this morning, and as I sit down at my computer this afternoon I find I have recieved e-mail confirmation of a letter to the editor I sent to the Fort Worth Stat-Telegram re: a column about the "nuts" in the Republican party.

"Moderate Republicans own the "nuts"

An article by Bud Kennedy, 9/12/09, outlines the concerns of Gen. Tom Daniels that “something is wrong in America.” The reactions we are seeing from the right wing "nuts", particularly in regards to President Obama, he fears, are nothing more than “unabated racism.”

I share these concerns, but let me point out a few things that he has conveniently missed.

General Daniels notes that he loved President George H.W. Bush, and inquires, “Where are the moderates in the Republican Party? Where are the people like George Bush who made sense? They’re letting the nuts lead them around by the nose."

He is talking about the same President Bush who’s own road to the White House was paved by his protégé Lee Atwater’s race bating campaign ads. He is talking about the same “moderate Republicans” and Reaganites who coddled the extreme right wing, negligently thinking that they could control the racism and hate, only to see them become bulls in our national China Shop.

Kennedy adds: “I know what some of you are going to say. It’s political, not racial.” Unfortunately it is both. Republicans courted these “nuts” for their crass political purposes. Now they have to live with their “unabated racism.”

I am a little weary of hearing these non mea culpas from Republican enablers. To paraphrase one “Republican moderate,” Gen. Colin Powell, the Pottery Barn Rule applies here: You brought ‘em, you own ‘em.

So, while we applaud his integrity, don't forget that he worked for Bush & McCain. I'm sure I don't need to mention all of their transgressions, vis a vis encouraging this type of disgusting behavior.

I am encouraged that he recognizes that Wilson is a lout as well as a nut. I will be more impressed when he admits that his whole party bears more than a little responsibility.

6. I think we need to deal with the lie itself.
They're increasing anger over undocumenteds costing them more. They know our Dems are corrupt enough to to cost the option. They can then play this as Dems spending where it's really costing less.
