59. We need to be
We shouldn't be dishonest or violent, but we need to be aggressive as hell. FDR welcomed the hate of corporate powers and their wingnut followers. LBJ knew how to twist arms. The progressives of the 1900s didn't beg for permission to be treated decently from employers, they forced employers to treat them better.

These people can't be reasoned with. They need to be subjugated using whatever legal means necessary.

99. Projection.
The people that support war and bombs and killing and less personal freedoms naturally see everyone as thinking as they do. Likewise, we on the left often project more benign intentions on right, thinking they can't be as evil as they seem. We underestimate them as we project our peacenik world view onto them. That's why the left keeps compromising and thus allowing the country to move ever-right. :(

and when they had police and company thugs they have killed, brutalized and destroyed many people of the left and with few consequences. They are fucking scum and we must realize they are serious even though they are stupid and laughable - they can still kill us and they have historically done so.

7. Yeah, I have a strong reaction to human filth like this. So much of...
...what they wrap around themselves reveals some extremely ugly, destructive human traits and beliefs which are responsible for countless suffering.

I don't want them destroyed, per se, but if they all got a really bad skinned knee at once, I might come closer to believing in a God. :)

76. the Chicago way is pretty popular in these parts too
They send one of yours to the hospital, you send one of theirs to the morgue. Then they send two of yours to the morgue, so you send three of theirs to the morgue.

Then they send four of yours to the morgue only one of those four is an innocent bystander (lately out here it's been little kids) who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That's the main problem with "adults" going after each other like that.

It's always the kids who suffer.

But what the hell...if they're Freeper kids, they don't matter anyway.

This may not be my house, but I definitely would like you to leave these "parts". Bang your wild minded drums in which ever rabid forum rewards such asinine a notion that kids don't matter because of who raises them. The second you can say something like that, IMO you're on the wrong side.

PS If that's sarcasm, I offer apologies in advance, all the world's children are precious cargo, and I get steamed at their being belittled or diminished in value, especially when it's expressed so flippantly.

40. One of Oliver Stone's
best early works. He wrote the screenplay, and might've directed it had they let him. Of course they chopped the script, and Ridley Scott bowed out at the last minute so they went with Milius(?).

I would love to see a remake of the movie as originally written, directed by Stone (but without Arnie)...

Why Conan's son? Too many Conan stories left to be told. It could be like the Batman franchise if it was done properly...

the nice signs they had in DC today! Let's ignore that threats against President Obama have increased to 30 per day, so he has been in office since January so that.....hmmmm 30 x 254 days (jan - Sept 12), so if my math is right 7,620 threats so far........an increase of 400% over the last office holder.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/...

Even with all of the evidence you feel that there is not enough to prove racism. What will prove it to you....?

Did you think that MLK was murdered/assasinated because they dissaproved of his stance on human rights.....or do you think it was the color of his skin?

Yes, I agree the terminology racism can get thrown around and misused but in this case it is racism. Hannity, Rush, Coulter, Repug congressman are hanging out with known racist groups. They are stoking the racism with underhand talk and everyone know it.

This is not a game, this is America's ugly past getting the scab torn off and finally revealing to the world what so many of us know, and that is many in this country did not get over integration, equal rights for women, blacks, and anyone else that isn't white.

The country needs to deal with it.

But I'm afraid that as per usual the country will pretend everything is just fine because a black man successfully ran for President. The thinking when it comes to race relations is extremely shallow all over the place.

Not two days ago someone suggested that racism isn't a national problem anymore. It's becoming surreal.

114. How about you take your rather worthless advice
No one has ever said that it's only about racism. But it damn sure plays a major part and putting our heads in the sand and pretending it doesn't exist doesn't serve ANYONE.

It was ONE suggestion. One with which you are obviously uncomfortable. But that's YOUR problem not mine. Racism hasn't gone away because a black man was elected President of the United States and to ignore it is to allow the Republican party to continue to use it as a rallying tool to get the morons riled up.

But you probably don't have to deal with racism in the real world so you don't give a shit about combating it. Some of us don't have that luxury.

They had a demonstration opposite the teabaggers today, and asked people to have no emotion. I had to stay home because I am a human, not a Vulcan!
This issue is too important to have no emotions. We have to stand up to those who are against us, and take them down. Show them the lies, and make them listen.
If and when they show me respect, then, and only then, will I show them the respect that they now have to EARN!

55. Sorry, I have too many extended family member who are NOT "bad people"
but who listen to FOX and hate radio exclusively as their primary news sources.

I know it's hard to conceive when they get into that "sick minded" hate speech. But in all honesty, if you deal with them individually, they can be really nice people - to everyone. It's their ideology that is way out of whack.

There are some right wingers, given the difficult financial situation, who can be DEPROGRAMMED. However, if they only stick with "like-minded people" they will stay sick.

That's why SOME parts of Rural America and The South are stricken. That type of indoctrination can be contagious. If all you hear is FOX news 24/7 and you don't read any other news sources, then you'd think exactly like the right wingers.

All I'm saying is "there's still hope for some."

No, we can resist. It's more difficult and takes patience (I don't have much of that but I'm trying), but the pay-off is a better America for us all.

I believe that there's a hard-core 10% of Americans who are just plain unreachable. Yes, ignore these minions. The rest of the right wing CAN be reached with understanding and reason. We must wait until they financially HURT by the horrific corporate policies ... then they will listen to our perspective.

58. Agreed. Imagine what we would look like had these people won in the past
Right wing authoritarians were the ones who staffed the KKK in the 1860s, 1920s and 1960s. Had they won then race relations would be far worse than they are no.

The corporate masters who run RWA's opinions opposed the minimum wage, child labor laws, worker protections, unions, etc. The KKK also opposed unions. Like Obama said not long ago, we have tons of benefits from unions to this day (weekends, benefits, worker flexibility).

No medicare, medicaid, unemployment or social security.

You can't reason with these people. They are naturally undemocratic and authoritarian in nature and we would live in a country that was far more poor, miserable and unjust had they gotten their way in the past. You have to steamroll them and isolate them from power. That is the only way meaningful progress has been made in this country.

Primaries from the left

Taking away committee assignments if politicians don't play ball

More forceful leadership

An honest understanding of what we are up against (powerful corporations and mindless wingnuts, and not rational people who want a middle ground).

67. Does anyone here play the video game "Call of Duty 2"?
In it, you play a Russian sniper, Vasili Koslov, who is a conscript in the Red army, fending off the invading Germans.

In an early episode, your division drives them back into a big building, where they barricade themselves in the upper floors.

A private asks Lieutenant, "Are you going to negotiate their surrender?"

The Lieutenant orders that the whole building be demolished. You're ordered to go around on the first floor placing the charges on the main supports. (watch out! The Nazis have knocked holes in the floor above and shoot downward!

You end up blowing the building up, with the German soldiers still inside.

The rumble of the demolition subsides as the Lieutenant says, "That's how you negotiate with Fascists, Comrade!".

Very satisfying.

74. You can't be serious
Lets think logically about what you are saying here. You are advocating destroying, killing, and imprisoning people for their beliefs. Hmmm, I wonder who has done that in the past. Is it right for conservatives to want to kill all of you, Olbermann, Obama, and Pelosi? Did any of you advocate the destruction of all the people who went around calling Bush and Nazi? Remind again me which side is being "Bigoted, racist, protofascist, undemocratic, dishonest, hypocritical".

I see some people wanting to take down the "Corporations". Has a more stupid comment ever been made? Probably not. When was the last time some anti-corporation bum ever produced vehicles, oil, or steel? The country we have today exists because of big business. Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Morgan have done more to make this country great than any anti-business moron. Oh, and "fair trade" coffee tastes like shit.

Our country needs change drastically but it cannot happen through going around and "destroying" those with opposing beliefs. If your proposed system was tried, it would undoubtedly lead to a civil war and were I a betting man, I put money on the side that has massive production capabilities, the willingness to go to war, and the guns.

One last thought, see Terroristic Threats, especially in regards to the congressman.

As a libertarian, I meet the requirement to be on this forum. I support many progressive ideals but oppose several of the stupid ones that would have detrimental effects on the nation. Your post is no better than me posting, "A liberal? Really? Go jack off on a picture of Obama and Che or something." Try making real arguments against what I said rather than trying to discredit me by poisoning the water in regards to my philosophy.

The OP reads like it is promoting violence while leaving just enough room for interpretation to try to get away with it. I choose to read it as it was clearly intended. Also, many of the replies advocate violence more directly.

See post #13, also by the OP.

86. No
You don't belong here you corporatist shill, go piss off.

Your ideology hasn't a pot to piss in, plainly. As a student of philosophy I also feel obliged to tell you that Objectivism is bankrupt and just -barely- consistent as a philosophy, but woefully poor as a way to organize thought. Your lady, Ayn, personally despised Immanuel Kant, probably one of the greatest thinkers in modern philosophy. That instantly demonstrates her philosophical stance in relation to other philosophies.

We can argue these points if you want, you wouldn't be the first Objectivist, Libertarian, or von Mises wannabe I smashed into a thousand pieces.

The whole point is that I highly doubt the OP was talking about physical violence, physical violence was not even implied. It's really a logical leap to go on about how the OP was talking about an outright civil war to begin with. To be fair, political force was also not explicitly stated, but I would rather give the OP the benefit of the doubt than instantly accuse the OP of desiring a civil war.

He quoted a popular movie, just like in his original post. That is not an explicit statement, as he could mean anything by that.

People make references to sports and phrases dealing with sports as well, as they have peaceful connotations while still being linked to competition. When someone references, say, football in relation to politics, does that mean they want to literally play football?

82. Metaphorically, I agree with you ....
I would like to see the Republican party fall apart never to reemerge again as a force with any say so in government. I would like to see conservatives discredited and shown up for the fools and liars that they are. I would like to see people stop apologizing to the Freepers for saying what most of us think of them and have them realize the degree of a close to universal dislike of their policies, tactics and themselves. I would like to see media outlets stop quoting them and consulting them as if they had something new or important to add to the national dialogue or something constructive to offer. They lost. They lost big. I want them off center stage and back in the audience sitting quietly and realizing that they are not going to have things their way anymore.

I don't know if you meant actual physical death and destruction or not. It's hard to tell sometimes from a post because it has no vocal tone or inflection and I don't know you well enough to guess. I'm not up for a blood bath or killing them, but I don't feel like having a particularly civil dialogue with them either. You cannot appease a bully. Here we have crowds of bullies with the mentality of two year olds. The President needs to stand up to them. Congress needs to stand up to them. We who disagree with them need to stand up to them. So far the only people I see standing up to them are Progressives, Liberals and others who have had enough. In other words, us. Unfortunately, no one takes our objections into account even though we are in the majority, and the administration we fought to elect still courts them as if the world depended on their approval.

The opposite is true. If we use their ideas they will destroy the country as we have known it and all of the things that we value most. I suspect from what I hear from them and read in various sources that they would like to destroy us physically as well. Now is definitely not the time for Neville Chamberlain. We sure do need a Winston Churchill, though. Where in hell are we going to find him?

They're already defeated and marginalized--all of the recent theater is an expression of their rage at their own irrelevance. Sit back and enjoy. As FDR said in 1936:

"Powerful influences strive today to restore that kind of government with its doctrine that that Government is best which is most indifferent... They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob. ...Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for meand I welcome their hatred."

We welcome their hatred, because it means we're on the right track.

128. pacifism alone is not the answer either.

Pacifism as Pathology: Notes on an American Pseudopraxis is the title of an essay by Ward Churchill. First published in 1986.

His primary argument is that pacifism is incompatible with revolutionary goals and is, in fact, self destructive in terms of being ineffectual at best and a reinforcement of the status quo at worst.

Churchill believes that pacifism casts social conflict as a morality play, with the violent state being evil and the pacifist revolutionaries being good. The "good" cannot use the tools of the "evil" to achieve its goals, and therefore the use of violence is prohibited. The pacifists' superior morality will (it is believed) win in the end.

Pacifist revolutionaries believe that the state will eventually dissolve in the face of the superior social structure that pacifists will create. This ignores the fact that states exist to aggrandize and maintain power, and will not allow themselves to simply be "replaced" with something new and better. In Churchill's words, "Absurdity clearly abounds when suggesting that the state will refrain from using all necessary physical force to protect against undesired forms of change and threats to its safety". (p. 44)

110. That approach doesn't work for them, and it will not work for us.
What is the best thing in life? It's having friends. Take this concept and apply it to these people. And I admit your sentiment is one we all harbor. I tend to despise what these people are. But I separate what they are from who they are. They are human.

I'm not saying that we can open their minds for them. We are dealing with blocks of concrete for heads. I know many liberals with the same kind of consciousness.

But the bottom line is we cannot use force to accomplish anything. Trust me, I know. I've used force. It's how I've dealt with everything that doesn't go my way. And it actually works. It works in reverse. It makes the problem into two problems. Then four problems. It's almost mathematical in predictability.

All we have is work. Even if we tried to eliminate the problem, the problem would surface. It's like polio. And perhaps this is the problem with this life we live. Learning that it's not perfect here. Things don't go completely the way we want. I'm never going to fully learn this lesson. I have almost what I want, and yet am just as disgusted as you are about this. But at least I know that the only way to win this war is through communication and work. We'll know when we're doing it right. That day may never come. But when we're doing it right, they'll want to come over to our side.

And I may be wrong.

On which it said the following: "This machine kills fascists". Now. Do you really think Woody killed folks with his guitar? Did he even really think of his instrument as a machine? Or do you think he was making a point about the power of words and music to defeat poisonous ideologies?
Did Woody Guthrie actually kill fascists with his guitar? Ponder that.

121. The blue dogs are part of the problem. They're bought and paid
for by the same corporate interests. I could care less about what they think at this point.

117. YOUR hate won't destroy them. their's will. let them keep their hate.
your job is to not let them drag you down into the muck...which is very difficult because...we are human and we get tired. I totally understand where you are coming from though. but keep your eye on the prize. greed, gluttons, all the traps of life (fame, money, power) takes its toll on the host. we don't know that their personal lives are like. we don't know what personal hell they are going through or AWAITS them. I believe in karma and I believe in the power of benevolence. As a group will evolve whether we want to or not.

122. Or...live well by your own terms and know that your enemies will fall, on their own accord.
If you were wronged, you'll be there to experience their downfall and be proud of yourself because they brought it on themselves without you tainting your karma so to speak.

Do you understand the layered depth of the enemy? The status quo is waiting to be overtaken, but what we must stage is something of a bloodless coup. Establish communities that are prepared to offer some localized womb to tomb sustainability in preparation for the day our corporate overlords trade us in for a more profitable public. Push for single payer health, NOW. Buy groceries and anything else you can from locally owned businesses. Boycott as consumers major shopping venues for brief blocks of time regionally, in relay fashion. This way, they can measure the difference in their profits to gage how much we mean fairer business.

Behind the politics and pundits is a defense of thier pathology.A pathology than makes everyone around them sick.

60 Million Persons in the US Negatively Affected By Someone Else's Pathology

How many people does pathology negatively affect?' We did a little math....There are 304 million persons in the U.S. 1 in 25 people will have the disorders associated with 'no conscience' which include anti-social personality disorder, sociopath, and psychopath. 304 million divided by 25 is 12.16 million have no conscience. Each anti social/psychopath will have approximately 5 partners who will be exposed to their pathology = 60.8 million people!

(This does not include the children negatively affected and since psychopaths are hypersexual they tend to have lots of children so we could certainly tack on about half that number for children based on 2.5 children per psychopath. And sadly, this does not include all the other forms of pathology related to Cluster B personality disorders that also negatively impact others such as Narcissistic Personality Disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder. Current stats say that narcissism affects approximately 1% of the population ...But if we begin even with just the statistics on 1 in 25 have no conscience and multiply that out to figure out how many wounded people are out there---it's a huge issue. )
The Institute's friend, Howard, who was trained in psychiatry, said "I consider this to be the country's number one public health issue." And with good reason---60 million people negatively impacted by someone else's extreme pathology. There is the emotional impact--the aftermath symptoms that leave 50% of the people with PTSD. That's about equal with the % of war vets who come home with PTSD from Iraq and other wars.

This emotional aftermath (with or without PTSD) causes treatable mental health symptoms like cognitive dissonance, intrusive thoughts, sleep disruptions, increase use of alcohol, concentration problems, flashbacks, and paranoia. The emotional aftermath affects the work environment causing almost 50% of the persons negatively affected to have to cut back from full time to part time, be demoted taking lesser money, or go on short term disability for aftermath symptoms causing MILLIONS of dollars in lost wages.
