3000 vs. 18000 (per YEAR!): What's wrong with this picture?
WHY?
Can someone tell me WHY those 3000 innocent victims of the 9/11 attacks are SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT
than the 18000 PER YEAR who die because they can't afford health care, or are denied health care
for pre-existing conditions, or who die DESPITE having insurance when insurers water down their
coverage because keeping them alive would just not be cost-efficient?

Seriously; what's the difference?

Isn't this as REAL a danger to democracy?

Is it because the KILLERS are high-paid executives in expensive suits?

Is it because diseases are from GOD or something?

18000 PER YEAR... and counting.

But let's NOT help THEM... filling a fireman's boot with cash for THAT would be Communism.

Not to mention how it would wreck the economy.

1. People make money by ignoring those 18,000
Just as they made money lionizing the 3000.

2. When 18K die we killed them to keep our privileges tasty and that's ok
when 3k died on 9.11.2001 that was the work of ferriners and they and the rest of the world is lucky we didn't incinerate the whole damn lot of them.

"A-Rabs" therefore it matters, didn't ya know? and because their death made for a good excuse to go to war and brought up all kinds of macho feelings of patriotism that made us all feel good inside. :sarcasm:

4. don't forget the 12,000+ killed every year by drunk drivers as well.
but those kinds of things can't support an obscenely bloated military budget the way that 3,000 terrorist victims total in 8 years can.

7. I think it's closer to 45-50,000
And of course there's the ~400,000 who die from tobacco.

17. Kinda misses my point, though, doesn't it?
I mean, I think we pretty much do all we can in terms of car accidents and tobacco deaths...
But when it comes to health care, we do the absolute bare minimum, and nothing more.

5. Our Cultural Identity is One of Making Wars, Fighting Wars, Surviving Wars...
Our collective history from the beginning is defined, more than anything, by our Wars.

It's just that simple, we have no humility in the matter.

6. You can't Bomb Health care
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 11:01 PM by booley
Allow me to be cynical but 9-11 fit into the Con world view of a dangerous world where war and violence are inevitable.

And that the wars that were justified under 9-11 made a lot of people very rich didn't hurt either.

But when people die for lack of health care, who are we supposed to bomb and kill then?

20. And the oddest thing of all on that one is,
The fallen of 9/11 and those of Katrina were BOTH victimized by the very SAME
evil ugly old-money dynasty motherfuckers!
And by that I mean the Bush family.
