Bellingham, WA offers key to city to Jon Stewart (near Mt. Vernon, where Beck will get key)

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - Not to be outdone by his Mount Vernon neighbors, who plan to honor Fox News Channel conservative commentator Glenn Beck, Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike says he's offering a key to his city to Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central's satirical news program "The Daily Show."

The Bellingham invitation comes after Mount Vernon Mayor Bud Norris announced that Beck would show up Sept. 26 to receive the key to that city about 25 miles south of here. In July, Beck said he believes President Barack Obama is a racist.

Norris' decision has caused a heated debate in Mount Vernon, including protests. But some 700 tickets quickly sold out.

Pike says if Mount Vernon can give native son Beck a key, "perhaps Bellingham could provide a key to Mr. Stewart for the better reasons of providing cogent yet comedic analysis of news events and personalities." Pike says he and Stewart attended the same New Jersey high school.

Honestly,I say let Beck have the keys because Mt. Vernon deserves him. Even though I was shocked that Beck was from there ;the shock quickly wore off after I started remembering my time living in Mt. Vernon. As someone else said it is a hick town at best. I'm surprised that Beck would even take the key considering Mt. Vernon is home to many undocumented, Mexican, farm workers. IMO, the town is a hell hole, lots of petty crime, and lots of petty people. We lived there because we did not want live on the Island while my husband was stationed near there. I liked visiting Bellingham. It had a good vibe and nice people. I think the college had quite a bit to do with that. I hope Stewart takes the keys because that should shove poor old Mt. Vernon off the news cycle here.

Which for those of you who don't know is in Bellingham. I think this is a great fuck you to Glenn Beck.
