Had to laugh. I was watching KO. He did a segment mixing various right wing media hysteria over the Obama school"brain wash" speech contrasted with portions of the speech itself. There was a snippet from the Hannity Show with a woman spouting nonsense. Over the top of her head was the banner crawl repeating over and over "Our America" as if that station was the only defender/purveyor of "true" American values. Immediately, the movie "They Live" flashed into my head, with scenes of the government manipulation and brainwashing from the naive populace achieved by subliminal messages repeated over and over (unless of course you were wearing the special glasses which exposed the truth). The irony was just too much.
Many rushpublicans have been living in their bubble world for the better part of 30 years. Living lies and expecting more. It has just gotten more pervasive and obnoxious in recent years. It's been exposed as being a fraud by a majority that has led to a defensive backlash leading to wilder and more outrageous antics. It's like a child that isn't getting attention and resorts to throwing tantrums when other tricks no longer work.
Wingnuts can hide themselves away...listening to hate radio, watching faux noise and rattling the talking points among themselves so intensely that a rumor can turn into "gospel" in hours. These people ignore both irony and hypocrisy as their game is to reinvent themselves and history to "prove their point".
They're in a haze that leads them to think they're more perceptive and informed than they actually are. You know, the way some people think they're sexier or more clever when they're drunk.
I may have to steal that line...it fits. Yes, these people are always certain...while they may not have facts on their side, they are certain. Ignorance and arrogance are common traits among rushpublicans.
