For my 1000th post, I have a few things to say about how I am feeling post-election.
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 04:23 AM by Lorax7844
Election Day 2008 was one of the happiest days of my life. The only three events that rank higher are my wedding day (10 years this year! YAY) and the births of my 2 children. From Nov to Jan 20th I was a crying, happy mess. My dad marched with MLK and even though I am from MS, I was raised in a liberal household. If you think it is easy growing up in rural MS with hippie, non-christian parents, think again. I have always been an advocate of civil rights. I am a proud advocate of gay rights. I may explode and curse here all the time, but while I am loud in person, in real life I always listen to the others person's point of view and I do my best to steer those that disagree with me, with the truth and with justice in the right direction. I cannot be one of those people that believes "fuck those assholes." If I were to do that in real life, I would have to stop speaking to 80% of people I see on a daily basis. I don't work that way. Instead of stupid rednecks, I see poor people that have been taught to blame all of their problems on welfare queens and those different than them, instead of the rich mothers that own everything. These people can be reasoned with, if you know how to talk to them. Please try, sometimes you can even convert a soul or two. I've done it, and nothing will ever make me stop trying. I've been fighting with my super sweet republican father in law for 12 years and I will eventually get him.

I worked really hard in 2004 and 2008. I have raised thousands of dollars for democrats. I have personally, singled handedly, registered over 300 people to vote. I've marched in DC (War Protest in 2005). I've knocked on hundreds of doors. I've met Howard Dean twice (my hero and the person who got me involved in politics). I even kissed him on the cheek, couldn't help myself. I'm proud of my work and trust me everyday that Obama seems to give in to right wing bullshit, I complain loudly here and rec some of the bitchest threads you can imagine.

But I still have hope.

I know that Obama is playing the corporate game. I go back and forth on my approval of him. I really do like some of the things he's done. I still think that we can win in the long run.

Let me tell you why. Because we are right. We are just. We have honor. We will persist. We will never give up.

How many times did the corporate media tell us that we could never take back congress, or that the democratic party was dead, or that we could never take back the White House, or that the public option is dead. But guess what? WE haven't backed down. Sure some of the DLC fucks are trying to ruin it, but we have something to fight for. To quote the Great Dictator, "So long as men die, liberty will never perish from this Earth." I believe that with every breath of my being, and I will never stop fighting for a better world for my children, grandchildren, and for my fellow country men.

I still have hope that if we fight hard enough, we can make this world a better place. I hope that you continue to not lose hope and work with me.

Cheers all and I am so glad to finally have 1000 posts at DU.

Progress, it's never easy but it's happening already. That's why people are loosing their minds.

12. Obama may be playing the corporate game, but I'd like to make 2 comments:
WE DEMS are not fighting the Nazi GOP every step. From the "FEEL" of it, I feel as if the REPUKES were still in office.

1. We have a president who doesn't say boo while our health care gets completely trashed by the Nazi GOPers, but rather sits back and says nothing.

2. We ourselves do not go after the jugular of these NAZI GOPers. Never. Heaven forbid we did this and inundated the media with protests. Nope. We do like Obama, sit back. Maybe we whine a little and nothing else.

Honestly, I do not feel as if Dems were in office. I feel as if REPUGNICAN NAZIS were in office. We're being completely stepped on and our projects completely destroyed.

13. I feel that way to sometimes
I remind myself that I'm part of a movement, not necessarily a party.

We'll see...

23. Yep. We need momentum. And Obama has to get off his butt and stop trying to be sweet
He's selling us all out.

14. I made up my mind that if I can, and I do, blame the bush for 9/11,
I will determine my opinion of Obama on how things are in September.

Not that I think the idiot son bush actually planned 9/11, just that he failed to act; he and his administration are criminally negligent.

So now this mess belongs to Obama.

So far, I'm not impressed. Obama starts out sounding good. Takes minor action then ends up with nothing of import.

Seems Obama is listening more to Glenn Beck and Fox Noise than to his liberal base.

Every time Obama actually fulfills a liberal party platform, his approval ratings go up. Every time he tries to act like a neocon, his approval numbers dip.

We all voted for a liberal; NOT a 3rd bush administration. Given a choice between voting for a Republicon or a Democrat who acts like a Republicon, the people always vote for the real thing.

17. Congratulations from someone who "married in" to the MS delta.

I would truly like to hear your family's story, knowing all too well the social pressures of those years.

21. It is a really long story
One half of the family rich Jersey liberals on the other half poor republican racists. I don't talk to my dad's side of the family. After 20 years of their backstabbing, hypocritical garbage, I wanted nothing more to do with them. This DOES NOT negate what I said above, my dad's side of the family is a dishonest and thieving bunch, most people are not as awful as they are.

Growing up here was an interesting experience that I wouldn't change for the world.

18. I feel the president has been played, and still doesn't know it.
Maybe he will learn from this loss and come back next time with something besides his weak ass bi partisan bullshit.
