Southwest Florida school districts (Ft. Myers/Naples) censor President's speech to school children
Apparently, there is "some education" that is off limits to children in Florida.

You know, the most vicious irony about all of this is that *The Bush Family* prides itself on pushing family literacy programs in Southwest Florida, from tony resorts at Naples and Bonita Springs... Jeb Bush's self-procaimed reputation as the **Education Governor** is the cruel work of a dark and twisted existence.

Presidential or ‘propaganda?’ Collier, Lee schools won’t show Obama’s address to students

By KATHERINE ALBERS, LESLIE WILLIAMS
September 3, 2009

President Barack Obama has a message for students.

But kids in Collier and Lee counties won’t hear it in school.

That was the decision both school districts made Thursday in anticipation of the president’s speech to students, which is scheduled to be broadcast to schools across America at noon Tuesday.
The decision comes as Republican critics across the country are calling the speech an effort to foist a political agenda on children, creating yet another confrontation with the White House.

Obama is scheduled to address students on the importance of taking responsibility for their success, according to a statement from the White House. The United States Department of Education will also provide resources to classrooms that were developed by and for teachers to “engage students and stimulate discussion about persisting and succeeding in school.”
The department also recommended that students be asked to write a letter to themselves on “how to help the president.”

.....

Collier County Republican Party Chairwoman Carla Dean applauded the decision, saying it seems more appropriate to allow families to watch the speech together.
“I think that’s a more appropriate thing,” she said. “Kids are real impressionable and I think that’s the route to take.”
Children are in school to do one thing: to learn, Dean said. Taking time away from that mission does not make sense, even if the president is delivering a common-sense message on the importance of education, Dean said.
“There is a concern,” she added. “What does the president want to talk about? All I’ve heard is vague generalities.”

.....

Some conservatives across the country, driven by radio pundits and bloggers, are urging schools and parents to boycott the address. They say Obama is using the opportunity to promote a political agenda and is overstepping the boundaries of federal involvement in schools.
“As far as I am concerned, this is not civics education — it gives the appearance of creating a cult of personality,” said Oklahoma state Sen. Steve Russell. “This is something you’d expect to see in North Korea or in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.”

.....

Opponents of the speech said children should not be forced to listen to a presidential message. Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer released a blistering statement on the party’s Web site, condemning Obama’s “use of taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America’s children to his socialist agenda.”
“While I support educating our children to respect both the office of the American President and the value of community service, I do not support using our children as tools to spread liberal propaganda,” he wrote. “The address scheduled for September 8, 2009, does not allow for healthy debate on the President’s agenda, but rather obligates the youngest children in our public school system to agree with our President’s initiatives or be ostracized by their teachers and classmates.”

.....

Jeb Bush: 'I don't know' if Obama is a socialist

July 9, 2009

(CNN) – Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush told an interviewer that he could not say whether or not President Barack Obama is a socialist, and that the president would not have been elected if he had been honest with Americans about his agenda.

Bush would not answer the question of whether he agreed with the assessment of some congressional Republicans that the president is a socialist. "I don't know. Define socialism for me," he told Esquire magazine. "It's a word… I believe he's a collectivist. He believes that through collective action, through government, you can solve more problems."

American psychoses.

2. can someone set up proxies so students can stream this?
and figure out a way to let the students know at the last minute so the District can't block them?

At least then students with Internet access can see this

4. Parents whose children are being deprived
of listening to their president speak, should set up educational meet-ups among their friends. They should keep their children home that day so they can attend and hear what the president wants to talk to them about.

These anti-American morons manage to grab the microphone every time with their inane antics.

A massive counter-demonstration by Democratic parents and sensible Republicans and Idnependents would squash them like the evil bugs they are. A majority of Americans elected this president, and many more believe in a democratic system whereby the results of a fair election are accepted and the president is recognized as a president of all the people.

But what is more likely to happen is that our 'news' media will seek out more of these anti-American operatives and conduct 'fair and balanced' interviews with them, giving a platform to spew their nonsensical diatribes over the airwaves, with a few ineffective 'liberals' to provide 'balance'.

It is a formula that the rightwingnuts are all too familiar with and know how to use. And it needs to be changed. Liberals contacted by the media should refuse to participate in this despicable excuse for 'coverage'.

5. That Hyatt Regency, Coconut Point is literally right up the street from where I live.
I'm less than a mile from the entrance.

This area (Lee & Collier Counties) has a HUGE share of right wingers, no doubt. I can't say I'm surprised about this.

6. Personal responsibility is suddenly a "liberal value"?
Oh yeah that's right - the republicans dont take personal responsibility for anything, so it's only natural they wouldn't want to see kids educated on this horror. :eyes:
