My answer to an opponent of health care reform.
This was my response to a question posed to me on the Post and Courier(Charleston,SC) web site:

Chicago-Thug asks if I want the government to screw up private health insurance?
It's not the government telling you that you can't get insurance because of a pre-existing condition.
It's not the government telling you that you've lost your insurance because you've lost your job.
It's not the government telling you that you've lost your insurance because you've become a liability due to a catastrophic illness.
It's not the government telling you you're being denied a life saving treatment/procedure/medication because it's too expensive or considered "experimental".
No, it's not the government coming between you and your doctor.
It's some overpaid, fat cat insurance industry CEO, who's being paid by you through your premiums to deny you care.
The so-called government "death panels" everyone is worried about killing grandma do exist, but they're not government run.
They're run by the private insurance companies.
Personally,as a Navy retiree, I'll stick with the government. I've never been denied care or charged an exorbitant fee for care, and the care I've received both in and out of the military has been top notch.
By the way, you do realize the "government" is actually "We The People" don't you?
It's been my experience that no one wants the "government" interfering in anything until they need them. Then it's a different story.
As for government funded services, I do not mind my taxes going to programs to help others. Case in point, I don't have children, but I'll gladly pay taxes to fund the Public Schools.
I don't consider taxes to be an undo burden. I consider them to be my "dues" for membership in this country. It's the Patriotic thing to do.

(Have I mentioned that I really, really, really dislike these people?)

6. Thanks!
I just posted it, but I'm sure I will. He was responding to another post I'd made, where I listed all the reasons he shouldn't use publically funded "socialistic" programs. You know, things like EMS, Fire dept, police, water, interstates, etc. Dumbshit tried to hijack my post and turn it against me. FAIL!

Very well written. Small note: it should be 'undue burden'

9. yeah, i like that whenever there is some sort of natural disaster or something...
i don't hear anyone saying for the federal government to stay out and stay away... i only ever hear people complaining that the help isn't fast enough for their liking. funny how that is.

10. I was here when "Hugo" hit.
Believe me when I tell you people here would have done anything for the National Guard and FEMA, as well as all those electric companies who came from all over SC and out of state to help, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Feed the Children, and all the other organizations and individuals who helped.

I was on active duty at the time, stationed at the Charleston Navy Hospital. We had about 1,200 hundred people on board. In addition to our patients we took all the VA ventilator dependent patients, 2 nursing homes and an entire psych hospital.

We had no AC, no elevators (12 story building), windows were sealed shut, toilets were overflowing, windows blew in in the lobby and out in the pharmacy. The heat was intolerable, and despite our best efforts (fans and cool, wet towels), we still lost several nursing home patients. It was grim. We formed bucket brigades (using plastic trashcans) and took water out of the fountain and pond in front of the hospital to flush the toilets. What a mess!

I went into the hospital on Wed, didn't get home until the following Sunday. Had one night off and went back for another week of duty. I've pulled a lot of long hours, double shifts, OT, etc, but I don't think I've ever been that tired, before or after. I actually cried for joy when I saw the Guard.

13. that's what FEMA is for.... people EXPECT it when there is some disaster... but how many who e
expect it for a natural disaster are the ones who complain about federal government involvement. the thing is, that i know my own family members wouldn't even bat an eyelash at the hypocrisy when they bitch about not wanting the government involved in this and that... but somehow they are entitled because they paid into it. we ALL pay into it. one way or another. but somehow it's ok for them, but no one else.

15. Not yet.
I know it should be undue, but I was having a major disconnect between my brain and my fingers at the time. I always said that of everything I ever lost, I miss my mind the most!

16. He took the bait!
Here's his reply:

lmao, taxes are patriotic, thats funny.

Timothy Geithner
There was Tom Daschle, who was deemed essential to the effort to completely reform the nation's health care system.

And there was Nancy Killefer,
Bill Richardson
And Rep. Hilda Solis, husband
Rep. Hilda Solis, whose husband had some tax liens going back 16 years
Charles Rangel

gimme a break, it is not 'patriotic' nor the American way to redistribute wealth, just ask Lenin, Stalin, Castro, Chavez...

you are indeed a mindless lemming

And mine:

Chicago-Thug says, "You are,indeed, a mindless lemming".

Your screen name certainly fits you well, bless your heart.

When polite discourse fails, you resort to name calling?

This will be my last post to you, as it is obviously a waste of time to debate with someone who cannot state his point of view without resorting to the lowest common denominator. Reminds me of the type of low level bullying one might find on the playground at recess.

If that's the best you have to offer, you have my condolences

They never learn, do they?

17. It's what I expected, I guess.
It's interesting that of all of your points, he picked that one. Not surprising at all, but interesting.

You are right, let it go.
