FIRST ANNUAL SARAH PALIN DAY (and Happy Twenty-First Anniversary, Todd and Sarah!)

Dear Friends of Sarah,

At the stroke of midnight, I made a $29 contribution to SarahPac, in honor of the day, 29 August, 2008, that REAL hope was born for America. I know that many of us have contributed greater sums to Sarah in the past; still, I invite all my friends at C4P to make a $29 contribution to her PAC on this glorious 29th. Here follows a brief attempt to capture, in the supple nets of our English tongue, some of what I feel about Sarah from Alaska, and what I remember from those fateful hours last year. My experiences were somewhat different from those of the privileged souls who shared the night of the 28th/29th on Adam Brickley's great site. I only discovered Adam's site after the 29th! God bless you all! (and I shall be celebrating the day with a goodly bottle of merlot: red wine for our Red-State Lady!)

Let us all consider where we stood as a nation on 28 August, 2008. Barack Hussein Obama had just delivered his acceptance address in Denver to the adoring accolades of a sycophantic and, yes, traitorous national media. The sounder, saner part of America, with open eyes, was well aware that, lurking behind the screen and smoke of the "anointed one's" pompous rhetorical flourish, stood a program, nay an entire philosophy, that was the antithesis of what the United States of America stands for. But, what could we do? Did John McCain stand any chance of derailing the thundering juggernaut of Obama's DC express? Hardly!!

We knew, with our minds and in our guts, that we opposed, nay more, loathed everything Obama represented and advocated. However, his success seemed both preordained and inevitable. This is, indeed, what our enemies intended. In a perfect Orwellian convolution of language and concepts, the mantra of "hope" that was the standard and banner of Obama's campaign was calculated, with lethal precision, to, in fact, engender hopelessness and despair in that part of the American people who still "clung bitterly" to our Constitution and our traditions. So the dark night of 28 August passed into the cold and seemingly cheerless dawn of that fateful day for our country, 29 August, 2008.

At about 5:30am Pacific Time, as I recall, Fox News posted the announcement that Senator McCain had chosen the Governor of Alaska, the Honorable Sarah Palin, as his vice-presidential running mate. I know that a true thrill, not the puerile tickling that has made a certain Christopher Matthews notorious for all time, but a true thrill, ran up, not my leg, but into my mind and spirit and soul when I heard the news. In the midst of the profound, inky darkness of the past many months, a little scintilla and spark of hope, of courage, of light was struck.

A few hours later, John McCain made his selection official in Dayton, Ohio, a name and town that will always evoke and stir in me sentiments of grace and gratitude. Then Sarah walked in. Even before she uttered a word, even before I got a clear view of her incomparable, diaphanous eyes, mirrors of and witnesses to her soul's depth and power, that confident, fearless, straight, beautiful stride of hers, as she and her daughter Piper proceeded into the arena of battle to the stirring strains of the "Rudy" theme, awoke in my breast sentiments of hope, of devotion, of courage...of love.

Then she began to speak. I knew in that hour, in those moments, that God, in His mercy, had given us a champion, an incarnation of everything that was opposed to the dank, dark world of Barack Obama and his pitiful followers. Up to these moments, we had all known what our ideals were what we stood for. But those ideals and aspirations had remained locked and frozen in the true and certain, but still cold, concepts of our philosophy. Champions we had had in the past, like the Founders, like Lincoln, like Reagan. But they, great men all, were gone to the Valhalla of heroes. A living, breathing leader we had not...until those moments!!

I think all of us sensed, from the first instants of Sarah's Dayton speech, that the real battle lines had been drawn: it was Our Sarah vs. Obama. Yes, the campaign buttons and bumper stickers read, "McCain-Palin"; yes, McCain, not Sarah, debated Obama; yes, Sarah debated, not the "messiah," but the woeful, risible Joe Biden. Still, we all perceived where the heart of the war was...as did our deadly, merciless foes. Well they knew that they must crush and extinguish this bright and lovely flame before the American people could come to know her...and to love her.

So, for the following 120 hours they threw everything they had in their arsenal of lies and of hatred at her. Desperately they tried to prevent her from addressing the American people. By God's grace, by McCain's steadiness, by Sarah's unflinching, unfailing courage, they did not succeed. Sarah sallied forth at the RNC...and this unknown, seemingly novice politician from the North Country delivered one of the greatest political speeches in the annals of our nation. As one political pundit said to Todd Palin that evening, "America fell in love with your wife tonight."

In the days that followed, Sarah's splendid oration served to drag the stumbling McCain into his only lead in the polls. We all know what followed: the Gibson and Couric interviews, not Sarah's finest moments, but made, by a hostile and mendacious media, to seem far worse than they really were; the almost criminal misuse of Sarah's talents by the McCain campaign; the financial meltdown, Tina Fey, etc.

Yes, we lost the battle in the short run. Sarah, with a beautiful, eloquent silence (a silence imposed on her, as a final insult, by the McCain handlers) conceded defeat on that doleful evening of 4 November, 2008. However, I am convinced; I know that the campaign to save America, which began on Sarah Palin Day, will be carried to glorious triumph. We shall win the war...with her!

Let me finish by recalling a few words, beautiful, I believe, in their simple splendor, which were uttered by one of the few real TV journalists left in America, the honorable Brit Hume, on the night of Sarah's RNC speech. As our Lady of the North ventured forth into the cauldron and arena of conflict that night, Hume, who after the speech would laud Sarah's remarkable courage and poise, said, "And now here comes Sarah Palin."

My friends, these words, and the memory of the great, fearless, gentle heart of this lion of a little lady from the "Arctoan" State, will live always on the parchment and roll of my reminiscences.

"And now here comes Sarah Palin."

Against the whole weight and force and might of the American left, nay the International Left (dare I say, the Comintern), on 3 September, 2008, she came, she spoke, she conquered.

"And now here comes Sarah Palin."

With truth as her buckler and shield, she has survived all of the filthy attempts of the lying, godless hosts of the left to portray her as someone she is not. The verily royal battle flag and standard of Our Sarah is "still there," even after a night, yea many, many nights of relentless bombardment. See, we behold it and descry it in the "dawn's early light"!!!

"And now here comes Sarah Palin."

Brave, beautiful, Sarah!!!--From your friends at C4P, if you should happen to see this, we love you, we believe in you, we stand ready to follow you, whatever you decide to do, with full hearts and mighty hands to victory...victory for our beloved country. Happy Anniversary, and God bless you and your family always!!

I support Sarah everyday. Only high-profile person with balls to make hard-hitting attack Obama’s agenda and do it effectively. Amazing how effectively she has used facebook.

Those of us who were concerned when she resigned can now see where she was going with that, and we like it.

... The response in the main stream media has been most predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the “politics of personal destruction”. How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country. And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make. But every American understands what it takes to make a decision because it’s right for all, including your family.

I shared with you yesterday my heartfelt and candid reasons for this change; I’ve never thought I needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America. I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint. I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!

God bless you! And I look forward to making a difference – with you!

1. It's not just a web site, it's an alternate universe.
One I don't want to spend any time in. The cognitive dissonance of watching Ted Kennedy's funeral and reading that lunacy is making my hair hurt and my teeth itch.

are reduced to at the mere thought of of their savior. And they claim we deified Obama. Yet none of us has yet penned such a pathetic paean to our presidential pick!

4. First annual?
You see that all the time but calling something a first annual is technically wrong. You learn that in about any first year journalism class. You are not supposed to call it annual until you do it again the next year.

67. What an interesting sequence.... attack, then ask questions... No, I didn't write
that Palin letter. Yes, I read the thread.

You really should know a bit more about who you are addressing before attacking. If you think anyone who critiques Obama is a right-wing fanatic, then you really should educate yourself.

One possibility is to check out a person's journal when you are in attack mode.

I see this so often on DU... attack first, ask questions later... so destructive and hurtful.

As for all the rest of your post--irrelevant and whiny.

Not only will Sarah Palin never run for president, I will make the prediction that she will have legal trouble following her until the day she decides to 'retire' from the public eye and take all the millions contributed to SarahPac with her.

She is in it for the money, period. Grifters only care about parting the chumps from their cash, and will quote the Bible, tell them what they want to hear, or whatever it takes to do so.

But I hope she splits the religiously insane money from the republic party, so they have less to work with.

26. This really, badly needed the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" treatment.
So, without further ado, standing in for Joel/Mike and all the 'bots...my humble self.

FIRST ANNUAL SARAH PALIN DAY

Because there may not be a second annual Sarah Palin Day…

(and Happy Twenty-First Anniversary, Todd and Sarah!)

Because there may not be a twenty-second anniversary…

Dear Friends of Sarah,

Please, both of you, listen up…

At the stroke of midnight, I made a $29 contribution to SarahPac,

Whoa. Hope you didn’t empty out your bank account, pal.

in honor of the day, 29 August, 2008, that REAL hope was born for America.

You mean, the day everyone was coming off the high of the Obama nomination acceptance speech?

I know that many of us have contributed greater sums to Sarah in the past;

”So, fellas, don’t make fun of me because of my pathetic contribution, OK?”

still, I invite all my friends at C4P to make a $29 contribution to her PAC on this glorious 29th.

”—so I’ll feel less alone, poor and stupid.”

Here follows a brief attempt to capture, in the supple nets of our English tongue,

Translation: Get ready for some prose way more purple than anything Prince ever wore.

some of what I feel about Sarah from Alaska,

As opposed to the one Hall & Oates sang about.

and what I remember from those fateful hours last year.

”’Fateful hours’—cool, huh? Makes my life sound ever so much more exciting than it really is, huh?”

My experiences were somewhat different from those of the privileged souls who shared the night of the 28th/29th on Adam Brickley's great site.

Privileged souls? I’d say “cursed,” but, to each his own…

I only discovered Adam's site after the 29th!

And I’m sure they’re thrilled he did…

God bless you all! (and I shall be celebrating the day with a goodly bottle of merlot: red wine for our Red-State Lady!)

So we’ve established he’s a wino getting drunk alone on behalf of Sarah Palin. OK.

Let us all consider where we stood as a nation on 28 August, 2008. Barack Hussein Obama had just delivered his acceptance address in Denver to the adoring accolades of a sycophantic and, yes, traitorous national media.

”Traitorous”? How exactly would they be “traitorous”? Because they provided coverage of Obama’s campaign? How does that qualify as “traitorous”?

The sounder, saner part of America,

Um, yeah.

with open eyes,

Sorry, this is just too funny.

was well aware that, lurking behind the screen and smoke of the "anointed one's" pompous rhetorical flourish, stood a program, nay an entire philosophy, that was the antithesis of what the United States of America stands for.

Yeah. You know, like caring for the less fortunate. Helping everyone have an equal opportunity at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All that stuff absolutely antithetical to American values.

But, what could we do? Did John McCain stand any chance of derailing the thundering juggernaut of Obama's DC express? Hardly!!

Because, for once, the majority of the American people had woken up. Thank goodness.

We knew, with our minds and in our guts, that we opposed, nay more, loathed everything Obama represented and advocated.

”’Cause, like, he was black and stuff.”

However, his success seemed both preordained and inevitable.

It was…

This is, indeed, what our enemies intended. In a perfect Orwellian convolution of language and concepts,

Omigosh. These people probably never even read Orwell.

the mantra of "hope" that was the standard and banner of Obama's campaign was calculated, with lethal precision, to, in fact, engender hopelessness and despair in that part of the American people who still "clung bitterly" to our Constitution and our traditions.

Um, idiot? He didn’t say you “clung bitterly” to the Constitution. On the contrary, it’s the Constitution you and your fellow believers have been shredding for years.

So the dark night of 28 August passed into the cold and seemingly cheerless dawn of that fateful day for our country, 29 August, 2008.

Omigod…you’d think the world was ending, just because a black man was nominated for the presidency.

”Not to mention other parts of my body…and no, I don’t mean my leg.”

In the midst of the profound, inky darkness of the past many months,

”’Darkness.’ Get it??? ‘Cause Obama’s like, black…??”

a little scintilla and spark of hope, of courage, of light was struck.

”And I could almost see the light of Caucasian glory being rekindled right before me…”

A few hours later, John McCain made his selection official in Dayton, Ohio, a name and town that will always evoke and stir in me sentiments of grace and gratitude.

”Oh, Dayton, my Dayton…my ‘ton of Day’…City of light, city of magic…I shall be forever grateful to thee…”

Then Sarah walked in.

”On all the TVs of all the basements of all the mothers in the world, she walked onto mine…”

Even before she uttered a word, even before I got a clear view of her incomparable, diaphanous eyes, mirrors of and witnesses to her soul's depth and power, that confident, fearless, straight, beautiful stride of hers,

”Those firm, yet quivering, breasts almost bursting from the slender bodice of her supple, youthful body…”

as she and her daughter Piper proceeded into the arena of battle to the stirring strains of the "Rudy" theme, awoke in my breast sentiments of hope, of devotion, of courage...of love.

”I knew right then that I would stalk her for the rest of my life.”

Then she began to speak. I knew in that hour, in those moments, that God, in His mercy, had given us a champion, an incarnation of everything that was opposed to the dank, dark world of Barack Obama and his pitiful followers.

”’Dark’…’cause, like, he’s black…get it??”

Up to these moments, we had all known what our ideals were what we stood for.

”Racism…wealth…hatred for the poor and less fortunate…homophobia…all those good old American values.”

But those ideals and aspirations had remained locked and frozen in the true and certain, but still cold, concepts of our philosophy.

”We needed the soft body of a hot chick to warm ‘em up.”

Champions we had had in the past, like the Founders, like Lincoln,

Really? Lincoln would turn over in his grave listening to you.

like Reagan.

Let us all bow to the greatness of the all-holy St. Ronnie. :puke:

But they, great men all, were gone to the Valhalla of heroes.

Otherwise known as…HELL. (Well, Reagan anyway)

A living, breathing leader we had not...

”We kept trying to prop Ronnie back up and give him mouth-to-mouth, but it didn’t work.”

until those moments!!

”And then…we had a living, mouth-breathing leader!!”

I think all of us sensed, from the first instants of Sarah's Dayton speech, that the real battle lines had been drawn: it was Our Sarah vs. Obama.

Boy, talk about bringing a spork to a knife fight.

Yes, the campaign buttons and bumper stickers read, "McCain-Palin"; yes, McCain, not Sarah, debated Obama; yes, Sarah debated, not the "messiah," but the woeful, risible Joe Biden.

Yeah—woeful, risible Joe, who is 12 times the man the author of this piece of crap will ever be.

Still, we all perceived where the heart of the war was...as did our deadly, merciless foes.

Ooooh!

Well they knew that they must crush and extinguish this bright and lovely flame before the American people could come to know her...and to love her.

Because to know this bright and lovely flame was to love her…bwahahahahahaha.

So, for the following 120 hours they threw everything they had in their arsenal of lies and of hatred at her.

Um, not really. She pretty much hanged herself with her own rope.

Desperately they tried to prevent her from addressing the American people.

BWAHAHAHAHA! No, it was more like, she tried to AVOID addressing them, because every time her mouth opened, stupidity came out.

By God's grace, by McCain's steadiness,

”By the steadiness of a feeble, doddering old man…”

by Sarah's unflinching, unfailing courage,

Which we saw so recently in her decision to end her governorship…

they did not succeed.

”And that’s why McCain is president today…um, uh, no, wait…”

Sarah sallied forth at the RNC...and this unknown, seemingly novice politician from the North Country delivered one of the greatest political speeches in the annals of our nation.

Don’t you mean “in the anals of our nation”?

As one political pundit said to Todd Palin that evening, "America fell in love with your wife tonight."

”Or at least a bunch of weird, pathetic guys living in their moms’ basements did.”

In the days that followed, Sarah's splendid oration

”But enough about what she was doing behind the scenes…”

served to drag the stumbling McCain into his only lead in the polls.

Wait…you were just saying McCain was “steady.” Which is it, pal?

We all know what followed: the Gibson and Couric interviews, not Sarah's finest moments,

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

but made, by a hostile and mendacious media, to seem far worse than they really were;

Yeah, because if they hadn’t been so hostile and LIED, everyone would have thought she was great. :sarcasm:

the almost criminal misuse of Sarah's talents by the McCain campaign;

”But again, enough about her, ahem, talents…”

the financial meltdown, Tina Fey, etc.

”Because if not for the financial meltdown caused by Tina Fey, McCain would’ve won the election!”

Yes, we lost the battle in the short run.

And in the LONG run, idiot.

Sarah, with a beautiful, eloquent silence (a silence imposed on her, as a final insult, by the McCain handlers)

And in her case, silence is indeed golden.

conceded defeat on that doleful evening of 4 November, 2008.

Funny, I don’t remember it as doleful.

However, I am convinced; I know that the campaign to save America, which began on Sarah Palin Day, will be carried to glorious triumph. We shall win the war...with her!

”Onward, Sarah Soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Sarah going on before…”

Let me finish by recalling a few words, beautiful, I believe, in their simple splendor, which were uttered by one of the few real TV journalists left in America, the honorable Brit Hume,

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA…

on the night of Sarah's RNC speech. As our Lady of the North ventured forth into the cauldron and arena of conflict that night, Hume, who after the speech would laud Sarah's remarkable courage and poise, said,

”AmmnnnhhehehehccShhhhpplalannnnnnn.”

"And now here comes Sarah Palin."

Or something like that.

My friends, these words, and the memory of the great, fearless, gentle heart of this lion of a little lady from the "Arctoan" State, will live always on the parchment and roll of my reminiscences.

Oh man…

"And now here comes Sarah Palin."

More noble words were never spoken…yeah, right.

Against the whole weight and force and might of the American left, nay the International Left (dare I say, the Comintern), on 3 September, 2008, she came, she spoke, she conquered.

And she left!

"And now here comes Sarah Palin."

”Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus Lane…”

With truth as her buckler and shield,

Truth? That woman wouldn’t know Truth if it spit in her eye.

she has survived all of the filthy attempts of the lying, godless hosts of the left

Bwahahahaha.

to portray her as someone she is not.

Hon, we don’t have to portray her as something she isn’t. She does a fine job of burying herself.

The verily royal battle flag and standard of Our Sarah is "still there," even after a night, yea many, many nights of relentless bombardment. See, we behold it and descry it in the "dawn's early light"!!!

Thank you, Francis Scott Freep.

"And now here comes Sarah Palin."

Batten down your hatches and lock up your daughters!

And even Sarah Palin looks around frantically and calls: “Security?? Security??”

Chuckling all the way through, remembering watching "Joel/Mike & the bots" - then I got to that line and the full blown belly laugh took over. Great way to start my Sunday morning.

68. Yes, there is such a DU rule for copyrighted material. But can we
not impose self restraint when it comes to copy/paste of long, venomous screeds from sites that historically specialize in such? Can we not simply paste in a line of two of the venom, and add that there is more venom at the link?

When people find something really foul smelling in the back of the refrigerator, they often don't simply toss it out. Instead, they open the container, show it to someone and say "This is the nastiest stuff I've ever smelled. Here, you smell it." Why do we do that?

70. I posted the entire maudlin love letter (not a venomous screed) to allow other DUers
access to it without their having to visit freeperland. Reading the thread in its entirety will clarify the appeal of the post.

As for potentially disgusting stuff from refrigerators, I don't sniff it. Of course, you may do as you please, but perhaps you could employ a similar tactic and occupy yourself with any of the hundreds of other active threads available to you on DU at any one time rather than sticking you nose right into the stuff you find malodorous.

55. It's hard to believe anyone would take the time to write such a long crapfest.
This was obviously written by someone in the throes of early romantic love, when the partner is perfect and all critics are crazy. To compare the imaginary object of this icky-gooey love letter with the actual, deeply pathetic woman behind the curtain is simply to laugh. I laugh at the constant witlessness of conservatives, and at the special idiocy of Palin worshippers.

This period of American history will be a motherlode for future students of Abnormal Psychology.

He likes to use "nay"

"...nay an entire philosophy..."
"...we opposed, nay more, loathed ..."

He wanted to say Antichrist, but opted for "... the antithesis of what the United States of America stands for.." Through Champlin's "brief attempt to capture, in the supple nets of our English tongue, some of what I feel about Sarah," the reader can see Obama's dank, dark syncophants dismantling the grand republic with their filthy godless hands!

"And now here comes Sarah Palin."

He mirrors Barbara Cartland's breathless, orgasmic style quite well with one hand.
