Who would fire him? Rush is self employed. His contract with his own corp. calls for 45 million a year. He ain't Imus. 20 million "ears" a week, 600 plus stations and companies standing in line to pay the bill, your dreaming. Imus was a CBS employee, when the big advertisers pulled the plug at MSNBC CBS got worried. Limbaugh doesn't have big national sponsors that care about "pressure" and the local affiliates can sell every minute of air time available.

and I could be wrong (and certainly don't care enough to check) is that Rush gives his show to stations for free in exchange for a portion of the commercial spots. This would give them even less incentive to "fire" him. Obviously he has a niche audience that his advertisers are going after anyway: "the angry white man". I doubt his advertisers fear much backlash from them.

for the same reason that Air America is barely still afloat (if they haven't sunk yet).....MONEY. I hate to explain some fairly simple economics to some of you, but here goes: If you have a large audience (especially a large audience with disposable income) advertisers want a piece of that expendable income, so they hawk their wares in places where their advertisements are likely to be heard by the most people. Like it or not, Limbaugh has a large audience. He isn't going anywhere.
