43. This is really typical for a wake
The only thing missing is the alcohol.

People eulogize the dead and occasionally satirize the living, especially if they're present and weren't on great terms with the deceased.

Hatch's speech is sprinkled with great humor and genuine fondness for Kennedy.

I'm pretty favorably impressed.

Really.

79. It made me tear up.
Just a friend trying to put his grief into words.

84. When you're in your 70's/80's and you're friends are all dying...
I hope your literary critiques will become less hazardous.

94. It was sincere, and under the circumstances that's what matters.
It wasn't great art -- but so what? I don't like Hatch, but he very obviously loved his friend and the poem was just as obviously heartfelt.

97. From the heart to his "liberal friend"...
There is no greater honor than when someone takes the time to write a poem, compose a song, make a dance, paint a picture, etc. about their friend.

Orrin Hatch's comments and poem were very moving... especially because he acknowledged who Ted Kennedy was... an opponent, a liberal, but above all, a friend.

81. And the world will be better for this, that one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage, to reach the uneachable star.

Perfect.

87. The thing about Teddy was that he never asked us to hold our water.
He never said, keep your powder dry. He was always all about going forward, about fighting and advocating and reaching.

That was perfect.
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the left*
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

*I changed one word

106. I think he's still director of the DC Opera,
and they're very closely linked with the Kennedy Center, so that makes sense.

I haven't heard Domingo sing in public for years. I wonder how his voice is.

He's getting up there in years, but I bet he'll be brilliant......................
