Imus fired but the slimy pig Limbaugh is still on the air?
I'm not sure I understand that. Not that I'm a big fan of Imus. Actually I've only heard him a couple times and he didn't impress me much. But there can't be anyone more offensive than Rush, except maybe Ann Coulter. What's up with that?

1. He's apparently smoother than Imus . . .
And has better impulse control when it comes to tossing off insults.

22. Let's see -- making fun of rich actors who've voluntarily . . .
taken on the role of spokesman versus savaging college girls--who are not public persons in anything like the same way--in gutter terms.

Which is more likely to get you into hot water with the general audience?

Limbaugh stubbed his toe, Imus fell flat on his face.

16. Smoother?
I've never listened to Imus, but years ago had to listen to Rush day after day at work (my boss played Rush and Dr Laura to employees and customers alike!) .:puke:

Rush is not smooth. He has a big following (still big I guess) - the angry, deluded underbelly of our society, and I guess there are some in the media world that want to exploit that, promote that....

Sickening.

23. I don't follow either one of them to speak of, but what I've heard . . .
Limbaugh's more in control and yes, "smoother."

Still a slimy sack o' shit, of course . . .

34. Yes
Rush seems to exercise a lot of control. Both in his language and in who is allowed (or not allowed) on the show via his screeners.

But he uses a lot of "code" words - over and over - and everyone knows what they mean (very crude).

5. there is only one consideration
I work in broadcasting, on the management side so I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt why. Revenue. As long as his advertisers are still signed up and paying, he'll be on the air.

If his advertisers can be convinced to pull their support, he's a goner. It's that simple.

6. Notice how Limpballs is never mentioned. We have to hope we are starting with 60's and
moving forward and will eventually get the Drugged Out/Despicable Limpballs who seems to have survived all boycotts and the rest. Limpballs next, Coulter and then on "down the line."

8. Limbaugh is fired - but that slimy pig Imus is on liberal media
Maybe the reason we couldn't go after right wing hate media is because the so-called liberal media had Don Imus.

Same goes with Hannity and Coulter.

And for limited periods of time.

A buffon??? Like that.

I don't think he believes half the crap coming out of his mouth. But he sure gets rabid morons to call in - it is pretty funny most days.

14. Maybe now there's a precedent set - next time Limbaugh calls someone a half-breed
we can all point to what happened to Imus and insist that the fat hog gets shipped out. And you know with Limbaugh there's going to be a next time, sooner or later.

is a turning point for hate speech. I'm not saying something will happen overnight. I'm saying it could be a beginning.

19. The Template Is There...Can We Use It?
The game here is to focus a discussion on the hate that pours from people's radios. The misinformation. The lies. The personal attacks. It's been accepted too long and here's the chance now to use the Imus template to Rushbo or Boortz or other radio hate spewers in a similar manner.

Unfortunately, removing those vermin will require more than what it took to chase Imus. Many work for companies that aren't as reliant on advertising the way Imus is...but is part of a bigger agenda/operation, that needs to be exposed and then a push made to revise the Telcom '96 bill to end the monopoly of the public airwaves by the large corporates and force more local ownership and voices on our airwaves.

24. It's a matter of POWER...who did more for Repug/Fundies/MIC.?
(MIC meaning Military-Industrial-Complex" that Repug Eisenhower pointed us to.

That said.....Limpballs has done more to keep "That" in Power than Imus did. Imus was just the voice of the Beltway Whore Media and Racist/Sexist Rhetoric.

So...WHO IS MOST IMPORTANT? Limpballs and his little minions who support his crap: Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin and the Corporatists on CNBC who is sponsored by GE.

The fish "rots from the head." Head was Imus.....and WORK DOWN as the Corporate Whore's see "THE CHANGE!"

26. Limbaugh is a SYNDICATED radio personality
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 05:50 PM by SoCalDem
His "network" EIB was apparently "created" by ABC, so they would NOT be directly associated with him

Republicans are methodical, crafty & devious. They PLAN AHEAD.

Technically most of them are not "employees" of the networks who air their "shows", so they have a cushion between them, their listeners & the people who write the paychecks.

AND by ONLY going after liberals, they guarantee that their faithful audience will cut them slack.

Guys like Imus & Maher, in their attempt to "go after EVERYONE" don't have the "blind devotion" that conservative radio guys have .. That's why they get "fired"..

28. There is no "Excellence in Broadcasting" network.
It's just a phrase, like when Limbaugh says he has "Talent On Loan from God."

The radio stations which carry his show could drop it.

he works for the right wingers who don't care what he says or who he offends, as long as he stays on the party line
