Ted Kennedy, born into affluence, chose to devote himself to the lessers. While he didnt don a begging bowl, he did offer something almost as precious as a meal to a starving man. Dignity. His effect, while not wasted on many righties in the real world, had quite an effect on his peers. He was beloved by diametrically opposed characters. His effect, even in death, is to shame us into humanity. I think that could eventually be more important than his actual words.

The Buddha meme? The Buddha preached a easily available (although not easy) way to enlightenment in this lifetime, and gave up absolutely everything to do so.
