Mods - any chance we can get the threads posting links to hate sites removed?
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 09:42 AM by Doctor_J
I guess the drug-addled pedophile has sent his brain dead minions here to post links to lucianne, sludge, drug-addledpedophile.com, freeperville.com, etc. And they seem to be out in droves. I don't see any reason to fill up the forums with hate, today or any other day for that matter.

1. gonna be a rotten day around here. We need to be extra nice to the mods
and each other ;)

Good idea about shutting down threads with those links.

2. I agree or make a forum for "Right Wing Echo"
for the life of me I can't understand why someone would post whole quotes from limbaugh, beck and the like...

All it does is spread their message and it does not belong here.

For a time I ignored anyone who posted verbatim direct quotes from Limbaugh.

The result was a handful of people were responsible for spreading the spew here.

3. alert on the posts.
i suspect it is hopping back there. if everybody alerts, and resists the urge to play with the creatures, they will be dealt with quickly. no matter how deserving they may be, attacking these idiots with insults that are not allowed will only slow down their removal.
so, don't feed them, don't bash them, don't toy with them, just alert, alert, alert.

Alert as soon as you see them and we'll get to them ASAP. :hi:

On edit I should also add:

Please alert if you think someone is a troll, but if you want a change in the rules about linking to freeperville or anyother site that is normally allowed you need to contact DU admin.

7. don't click the links if you don't want to go there
Why is this concept so hard to understand? It's not like people are rickrolling you with disguised links to rightwing filth. Folks here tell you what the link takes you to. If it's something you'd rather not see, THEN DON'T CLICK THE LINK!

The moderators are not here to censor DU to your exact specifications. Leave them alone to do their jobs, and for gawd's sake quit clicking links you don't really want to click. It ain't rocket surgery, Bub.

10. Nah, it's lots more fun to throw around baseless accusations.
I've been a contributing member at DU for over 7 years, and the body and content of my posts speaks for itself.
Today I posted a link to Lucianne.com because I was frankly stunned at the unanimity of the posts gleefully celebrating Teddy's death. I figured that at least SOME of them would admonish the haters and ask for a degree of respect and civility, but nope. Therefore, in the spirit of "this is what we're up against" I linked. Like you, I assumed that most of us are sentient enough to realize that Lucianne is a bullshit wingnut site, and those not wishing to be exposed would not click on the link.
Now some twit has accused me of "getting off" on hate speech directed at one of my personal heroes, and another has decided that I'm a Limbaugh "dittohead minion". And so it goes.

11. One of the few rules that we have is to
not post right wing talking points. This is not censoring DU to my specs, it is keeping the wingers out of DU, which is part of the mods' jobs. If people want to post hate, they can go to one or all of those sites and have themselves a blast.

15. posting a link to it is not the same as posting the offending content
I think it's important for people who want to see "how the other half thinks" to be able to see it in all its g(l)ory. Mods are not here to censor well-documented links because you find the target offensive.

The people posting the links are not "posting hate." They are saying "here - this is what hate looks like. Go see it for yourself if you want." Obviously, you do not want. So DON'T CLICK THE LINKS! And I think it should go without saying (but apparently doesn't) STOP THINKING YOU'RE IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO DECIDE WHAT THE REST OF US CAN READ. You're not. Quit bothering the mods.

12. It's not always "minions of the drug-addled pedophile" who post those links
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 10:16 AM by pipi_k
I never have, myself, but there are long term members who have, because they believe people here might be interested in what's going on over there. Some people aren't interested. Some are.

Reiterating what the person above me has posted, whatever happened to personal responsibility?

A thread, or link, is clearly labeled, and yet people just cannot find it in themselves to exercise a little self control...i.e. don't click the link for pete's sake!!!

The Mods aren't Mommy and Daddy.

In my own experiences as both Mod and Administrator on a few other sites, it's always somewhat frustrating to see people refusing to take responsibility. One site I Admin'd on had people yelling and screaming for an "ignore" option. When it was finally added, people still yelled and screamed about this or that one lobbing "ad hominem attacks". "Just put the person on ignore" we told them...."NO!!! I don't want to do that!!!", they screeched. "Why not?" "Because I want to know if the person says something bad to/about me", they replied.

Oy.

Oy double fucking vey

My reply is always, use the damned "alert" buttons, people...that's what they're there for...if the threads/posts/links violate a rule, then they'll be dealt with...

sigh...

17. Everyone in the world who wants to read what the freepers are posting knows how to
get to their site. There is absolutely no reason to provide links to that crap here at DU.

14. Normally I disagree but for today in honor of Ted Kennedy
can we remove the threads pointing to extreme whackos who are celebrating his death? We know what they are saying without reading it anyway.

Everyone who sees one of those threads alert on them and keep GD clean if at least for today.

18. I don't know
I posted what Limbaugh said a long time ago not because I agreed with it or trying to 'spread the message' but because I thought it was so ridiculous I laughed and I thought a few might think it's funny. I'm not one of his brain dead minions and the post I made was Limbaugh hypothetically asking 'would a white male judge break his ankle at the same airport on the way to same senate hearings' or something to that effect.
