Universal health care 'ungodly'

As a Christian, I'm getting tired of Democrats and those supporting universal health care coverage using Jesus and Scripture to support their own agenda. "Shouldn't you be helping your brother in need?" Yes, but they're missing the point. Jesus wasn't interested in making sure humans lived a few years longer. He wanted us to show love to each other so that others can come to know and love God. For instance, when a strung-out family member needed help, we supported her and showed her the love of Jesus. Now she has a beautiful relationship with God and is living a far better life. And we continue to help her.

How does raising my taxes to pay for some stranger's health benefits bring them closer to God? It doesn't. It makes them dependent on a government bent on wielding more power over its citizens. That, quite simply, is ungodly.

I have read that in different forms in some of their newspapers and web sites and LTTEs from time to time... that some people suffer diseases and can't get health care for them and it's just "God's will." It's such bullshit yet they use it over and over again to oppose expansion of health care.

Because people without insurance go to emergency rooms and the cost is exorbitantly higher than to them than it would be under a public option. And their taxes wouldn't go up probably at all unless they were making over 250 thousand a year, and if by some reason they did go up, it wouldn't be nearly as high as the money they pay out of pocket for insurance premiums now. Unless they get Medicare, which in that case, this person can just go eff themselves because everybody else pays for their health care and they themselves are dependent on government and are, therefore, ungodly. But I am sure this person will opt out of Medicare according to their own principles now or in the future when they get it.

And just who would Jesus deny health care to?

How does allowing an industry; having nothing to do with health care, to profit from the American People's illness and injury bring the people closer to God? It doesn't. Some time ago, I was debating with an evangelical who said much the same thing. I'd been relying on the Sermon on the Mount to reach her with my point that it's our duty to help one another, but she had a different twist on it.

She had been an officer in the Salvation Army and stated that all the charity work they do for the indigent "is merely a lure or an afterthought," as their sole reason for existing is "to snare souls for Christ."

For that reason, she was dead set against any government-run aid to people -- welfare, food stamps, health care, or anything else -- because it short-circuited the "good work" of routing the needy through soul-snatching organizations like her Salvation Army.

As someone who calls themself a "Christ'ian what about your requirement according to this:

But then God our Savior showed us his kindness and love.

He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit.

These things I have told you are all true. I want you to insist on them so that everyone who trusts in God will be careful to do good deeds all the time. These things are good and beneficial for everyone.

Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These kinds of things are useless and a waste of time.

Love one another, as He loved- willing to lay down your life for each other.
