for years. Same goes for Rush, Ann Coulter.

It's not my place or yours to forgive Imus for his slur against the basketball stars.

My beef with him is his pouring filth into our Collective Consciousness just as callously as GE polluted the Hudson River.

And he made boatloads of money for doing it.

There may be freedom of speech. But it is an affront to human progress when hatemongers like Imus and Rush use a public resource by spewing hatred and filth on it.

We can't outlaw their speech but we can hold them accountable and refuse to support them while they do it.

And for me to believe any paid-for hatemonger or mediawhore is genuine in their regret, I'd have to hear them acknowledge the extent to which they have damaged the body politic.

Edit- and I'd expect an effective Democratic candidate to use every and any opportunity to address the problem posed by these paid-for hatemongers on our airwaves. Including Edwards, Hillary, Obama etc.

their corporate masters at gunpoint.

It is the corrupt corporate media which gives such people their power.

It was the the corrupt corporate media which gained its vast powers by getting the Fairness Doctrine repealed under Reagan and the obscenely corrupt Telecommunications Act passed and signed under Clinton.

The messengers don't matter and can be easily replaced.

It's time for our Democratic leadership and candidates to stand up to the communications czars by reestablishing the Fairness Doctrine and repealing the Telecommunications Act which concentrated so much power in the corporations' hands, replacing it with one which regulates the industry and returns control of the airways to the American people.

It is time to stop the self-serving posturing of going after Imus, who may be down now, but is no better nor no worse than he has been for years. It is time to stop whining about the symptoms and go after the disease, itself. It is time to attack the real problem of corrupt, right-wing corporate control.

Reestablish the Fairness Doctrine now!

Repeal the Telecommunications Act and pass a new, fair one now!
