Seriously, this guy was guilty of distributing classified information. He should have been hung for treason, or at the very least died in prison, and buried with his penitentiary number on his grave instead of his name.

The pity is, that he was never even given a slap on the wrist for helping the Bush Administration in their march to war, and for outing a CIA agent in the national press.

For those who don't know, he's the guy who wrote the column in which Valerie Plame was outed as a CIA agent.

16. I'll say several nice things about Robert Novak.

First he was a consistent and sincere conservative, who occassionally had to, and did, apologize when he was wrong.

Second, he was "old school" in researching and sourcing stories. So much "journalism" today is a mix of slanted opinion, internet gossip and twisted factoids. Novak was a dinosaur from a time when dinosaurs ruled.

Third, he regularly appeared on TV (and radio) with and co-wrote with professionals who disagreed with him. Balanced before balanced was a laughable catch phrase.

36. I hate to agree with you but

I was thinking the same thing. Compare him to the regulars that now grace op ed pages/talking head circuit and Bob is a fucking genius and gifted writer. Heck at least he was someone you could have an honest disagreement with. Todays rethug journalists all seem to be A) crazy, B) not journalists, C) fake. They don't give a rats ass about anything but making money off the fools that are devoted to them and follow their every word. Even when todays word is the exact opposite of yesterdays word. Their opinions are neither honest in being actual positions they hold and believe in to argue from or opinions even about anything that could be argue about. I really think Republicans will look back and wonder what happen to their journalists that they could even leak stories to in coming years. If you let Billo, Rush, Hannitty or Beck break your story you've already lost 80 % of your potential listening audience. No, I'm pretty sure the Novak generation will be missed. Republicans simply are running out of publicly perceived honest brokers.
