There's Only ONE Choice Left For Obama - Veto Threat
He vows to veto ANY bill that has no public option.

This will kill any chance at all for health care reform in 2009.

You roll it up, blame the Republicans, and use it in the 2010 elections, INCLUDING GOING AFTER A TARGETED BLUE DOG IN THE SENATE! He has to go after one of his own in the Senate that chooses to kill this.

Otherwise, he loses the whole enchilada.

1. It's starting to look like that's what he'll have to do...
And this bodes really horribly for the energy bill.

4. Conrad has forced his hand
Bayh would be a perfect sacrificial lamb to go after in a primary, too. His wife is owned by the health insurance industry.

2. Trouble is whatever comes down will be veto-proof, it seems.
I just don't see the support for public option, and sure as hell not single-payer. We will end up with
more of the same, unfortunately.

5. You're out of your mind if you believe that
No bill without a public option can get past the House. You lose at least 60 ir not 100 Democrats in the House if you have no public option.

And there will NEVER be a veto-proof majority for ANY Health Care reform bill.

Obama cannot get anything passed now. His only choice is to stand firm with his base and blame Republicans and Blue Dog Senators.

6. It sure would be refreshing to see the President "stand firm with his base." nt

7. He is currently risking losing the base
This one is already a loss.

So you shore up the base, throw the blue dog senators under the bus and learn the lesson. If he plays it right, he can revisit in 2011 and win it then.

9. Well, I sure hope he gets it now...

My Congressman is a Blue Dog who, not only supports a strong public option, but wrote in a letter to constituents that he'd sign his family up for the public option ~ maybe others can be convinced.

3. I've been saying this for months
and he should be out there saying it too. Shrub certainly would be saying it for his pet projects.

no public option = VETO (where's my t-shirt)

8. Does the chicken have the guts?
Because so far all I see is him rolling over for the Republican and Blue Dogs saying "Rub my belly."

it's our house, our congress and our President.

12. Leave off the "in 2009" and that will be about right.
Unfortunately Republicans will have learned to use a formula that works for them and they will apply that lesson to everything else. Unless Obama is willing to take the gloves off and fight it will be a long 4 years.

16. What does "lal" stand for?
I have an idea, just checking to see if I'm correct.

14. Has he given you any indication whatsoever that he ever do something like this?
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 07:55 PM by Political Heretic
I don't think so.

The day this guy stops kum ba yaing all over the place and steps up to a real fight is a day I will cheer.

Unfortunately, for him to do that, he'd have to want what the american people deserve more than he wants to be in the good favor of privileged interests.
