St Louis Teaparty Leader Hates Frivolous Lawsuits, Unless They Target His Opponent

At Senator McCaskill's recent townhall, one of the tea party activists in the crowd asked why she wasn't talking about tort reform. Naturally the teabaggers, spoon fed talking points from the insurance industry, believe that the entire reason that health insurance prices are going up is because of all those mean people frivolously suing their doctors and insurance companies. McCaskill pointed out how insurance costs continued to rise even in states that have passed tort reform laws, and that malpractice costs account for only 2 percent of health care spending. I should also note that it's quite an amazing psychological fact that the crowd thinks that malpractice suits are wholly responsible for health care costs spiraling out of control, but also believe that health care costs are not spiraling out of control.

Anyhow, that doesn't stop Bill Hennessy, local leader of the tea party movement, and self-described "hater of ambulance chasers" (those who pursue lawsuits against the health care industry), from suggesting that we use frivolous lawsuits to target companies he doesn't like. Hennessy is mad that Geico and Progressive decided to boycott Glenn Beck for declaring that "Obama hates white people." You see, Hennessy believes in free speech, and if you believe in free speech it means that anyone should be able to publicly state any falsehoods and race-baiting comments they want and companies should be forced to still advertise with them anyway. That's what America's all about. And Hennessy's solution to this horrible injustice:

I hope no one reading this get into an accident. But if you do have an accident, and if the other party is a Geicoor Progressive customer, sue like crazy. Sue for the maximum coverage their insurance allows. You won’t be hurting the other driver–you’ll be hurting Geico. I can’t stand ambulance chaser law suits, but Geico and Progressive need to be financially destroyed.

Yup, those frivolous lawsuits are destroying America. But it's OK to destroy America if it's also harming someone that you hate.

1. Perhaps because medical mistakes
are one of the leading causes of death in the country.

2. All the republicans I know
Are the biggest hypocrites that ever existed. I also never met one who turned down medicare and social security if they are old enough, or insisted on working overtime without extra pay. Let others fight for protection, then later benefit from it.

If they truly want to walk their own line, repukes should have the option to sign a waiver that they would not sue their doctor for malpractice should a mistake occur, and in return receive a comparable reduction in their medical bills of maybe 2%. That way, they are truly putting their money where their mouth is.

3. I'm noticing that he thinks lawsuits are a matter of hating somebody.

If you have an accident, or have a doctor do something incompetent, like remove the wrong kidney; you're screwed up physically and financially, of course you have to get the person responsible to pay for it, or to have their insurance company pay for it. That isn't a matter of doing something hateful or greedy.

So, he wants people to sue Geico harder than usual as a political weapon. Use frivolous accident lawsuits to hurt his enemies. If its hate and vendetta, then he finds a reason for lawsuits. Not only is this guy a hypocrite, but he doesn't have a clue. He needs to talk to some people who have actually suffered medical malpractice. Such as having the doctor drunk and falling asleep during colonoscopy and sticking a hole in the colon, where the patient then has to undergo radical emergency surgery and then has a heart attack due to the strain of it. So, the patient opens her eyes two weeks later in intensive care.

Meanwhile, I take it that he believes that an employer, like CNN, has the complete right to fire an employee, Glen Beck for any reason, that Geico has the complete right to advertise or not advertise on a show for any reason at all, and that customers have a right to communicate with Geico that they are not going to buy its products for any reason at all. In that entire chain, I presume a conservative is all for every freedom that everybody used in the chain of choices that led to Glen Beck's dismissal, yet, for some unexplained reason, he thinks the outcome was an injustice!
