Racist Ohio Police Dispatchers on Administrative Leave

NORTH CANTON — Two police dispatchers have been placed on administrative leave amid claims they used department computers to pass around inappropriate e-mails.

A forward of the e-mail found its way to a Web site — www.ohiodailyblog.com — that reported on use of a North Canton Police Department e-mail account and Uniontown Police Department equipment to pass around the e-mail.

The e-mail in question is a photograph of Air Force One and claims the plane’s identification number has changed since Barack Obama became president. The photo has been doctored to show a new number of the plane’s tail. The combination of numbers and letters spells out a racial slur.

A caption with the photo reads: “New ‘Air Force One’ tail number and yes, please forgive me, I’m really sorry, I really, really tried not to laugh, but ......!”

Administrative leave my ass. they should be fired. We need to trust those that work in public safety. there is no room for racists. The fact that they passed it around at work makes it obvious that they cannot separate their personal opinions from their mission to protect all citizens.

due process matters. if the dispatchers are anything like cops (or teachers) etc. then they most likely have a collective bargaining agreement that guarantees leave WITH pay until the case is fully investigated and the determination made.

rule of law and due process matters.

for a first offense, i wouldn't recommend firing. i think a 2 wk suspension would be appropriate for misusing their email resources.

IF they sent it via private email and NOT during work time, then of course it would be a non-issue

Ultimately nothing. They'll serve their "administrative leave" because, well, SOMETHING has to be done, but once it's over, they'll be welcomed back with open arms. All will be forgiven.

Because there's a national backlash. Remember, the majority of Americans voted for President Obama. And if they look at that photo they might feel the way I did for an instant. That is a direct insult to the President which I think he can handle quite well, but it's also to the Presidency itself and to all Americans. That is our Airforce One, even if Bush flew in it all over the country trying to "get out of harms way" on 9/11.
