Now I've been happy lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately,
dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be,
some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together,
go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer,
it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living,
it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer,
soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately,
thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

1. Gawd, I love that song...
Remember listening to Cat Stevens a lot as a kid. "Tea for the Tillerman" was one of my favorite albums, along with the Moody Blues "In Search of the Lost Chord," Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours," and the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds," the latter two being among the 8-Tracks I used to listen to at night when I went to sleep, along with a Jim Croce tape I couldn't identify if I wanted to.

I was a hippie kid. What can I say?

"Tea for the Tillerman" -- TOP album. Back when folks made albums... Very nice set list you've put together there. An amazing time for music, pre-Simon Scowell.

:hi:

3. I wouldn't know if they did ban it, considering I don't listen to radio...
If I actually heard any of my favorite bands on an American radio station, I'd die of shock. I buy my music by the track, mostly, and make my own CDs. Occasionally I'll win a free CD at work and grab a Best Of compilation from some band I like. Then I drag it into I-Tunes and add the songs I like to one of my playlists.

6. Sounds good.
I listen to radio in the car -- good college station, classical, listened to the soul station a lot after :yoiks: died. No decent rock stations left.

9. Modern American rock blows...IMNSHO.
(In My Not So Humble Opinion).

My current playlist is made up of a lot of symphonic metal from Northern Europe (Epica, Nightwish, Edenbridge, Within Temptation, etc)... To me metal and classical are like peanut butter and chocolate. :) But just to mix things up I also have some eighties metal (very little "hair" metal, though), Pat Benatar, Concrete Blonde, Pink, Kamelot, Firewind, Dream Theater, and Collective Soul.

As you can tell, I like female-fronted rock.

10. Okay, thanks for the unfamiliar Nord rock ideas............
Love Concrete Blonde and Collective Soul, you can have Pat and Pink, not familiar with the others.

Recent Youtube excursion to old Berlin and Lenya Lovich, Nina Hagen and got turned onto Talk Talk (never noticed them at the time, not big on the synth bands) by Swede's Lounge thread. I liked Psychedelic Furs and Simple Minds, rather "feminine-fronted" dreamy, hypnotic sound.....

12. I like Berlin... Simple Minds too...
Liked the Motels and the Pretenders as well. Some Eurythmics. Nina Hagen's familiar, but I can't place anything off hand.

17. ADORE Yusuf Islam!
I feel like I was weaned on Cat Stevens when actually I was in college when Peace Train came out. He made me feel like there was a chance, like we could all together make it happen, force it to happen with a collective push. I think I felt that way until Reagan slammed the door on my idealism and I began to see how things really were going to be. I listen now from time to time but it feels so melancholy now. I was always partial to this one, it has meant a great deal to me for some time with the meanings changing with the world.

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
Youre only dancing on this earth for a short while
And though your dreams may toss and turn you now
They will vanish away like your daddys best jeans
Denim blue fading up to the sky
And though you want them to last forever
You know they never will
You know they never will
And the patches make the goodbye harder still

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
Therell never be a better chance to change your mind
And if you want this world to see a better day
Will you carry the words of love with you
Will you ride the great white bird into heaven
And though you want to last forever
You know you never will
You know you never will
And the goodbye makes the journey harder still

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
Youre only dancing on this earth for a short while
Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
