15 is just false. Growing up in a predominantly poor Mexican neighborhood I was attacked for my race. My neighbor's white kid was recently attacked for her race by a black kid in grade school.

I grew up poor, as in "we don't have enough money for food" poor exacerbated by a drunk, abusive drug-addled step father who couldn't keep a job. Did you know you can trade food stamps for booze?

But I never turned to drugs, crime or blaming my situation on anybody but my family. I kept my nose down, graduated high school, got the hell out and worked hard ever since.

Sorry, nobody ever gave me a free ride or special privilege to where I am now in the middle class. And I did it with affirmative-action college admissions and "equal opportunity" employment working against me. Companies, especially those looking for government contracts, need to show "diversity" if they want the job.

You want to talk "privilege," talk to my boss's boss. He was raised upper-middle class, free ride to a good college, white collar all the way.

At least that's what the racists would see first and foremost. All I see is a boss who knows his stuff so he gets my respect.

Now as someone who ran the 440 in high school this explanation hit home. Typically the 440 is one full lap around the track at a full out sprint. Imagine running with a pack of people all doing their best. As you hit the last curve heading to the home stretch, you're winded, your lungs are burning, your legs feel like lead but you're determined to finish strong. In a fair race everyone experiences the same conditions at that turn. In our culture if you're a white male the wind is behind you, helping push you to the finish. Everyone else makes that turn and has the wind hit them hard in the face pushing against them, impeding their efforts to finish strong.

That's what all us white guys get in this society. Not a "check", not a "free ride", not a "white bonus", just an extra push towards the finish while everybody gets a bit of an impedance. Sorry if that's a problem for you to wrap your mind around.

I agree with your basic premise, that it's twisted this particular issue is what is bringing protesters from the right out in droves, but unless i am seriously mistaken I don't see anything in the proposed health care reform bills that will give me the right to see a doctor.

pre-existing conditions makes it a right for my family. Right now I can't get health insurance because people in my family are sick.

they don't want "big" government in their lives dictating blah blah blah, BUT they have no problem with "big" government telling women what the can and can't do with their bodies.
