I've known for a while that something about the mantra "They'll follow us here" bothered me. Tonight I know. This is our fight, right George? So why are we using another country as a human shield? This is our fight so why are we saying "better those poor folks than us".? There is something very seductive about the argument that it's better to fight "them" over there than here but it is seductive because George knows that most Americans don't want to pay the price for their freedon. They would rather someone esle do the dirty work...National Guard, Army Reserves, Iraquis. George knows us very well and he and Rove and Cheney were betting that we would love the idea that the war on terror could be fought someplace else, spilling other blood. They are wise to us...or they think they are.

I say, I'm ready to defend my counrty. Let's take all the Halliburton money and all the other money and defend our lives here...here! If this is, in fact, our problem, let's face it here. No more surrogates. Continuing this war in Iraq is tantamount to taking innocent people as human shields so that the fat and happy American people can avoid the hard consequences. I wonder if we are really willing to face the consequences and fight.

Bush is afraid. The American people have decided they're not. At least they don't believe that invading and occupying countries which didn't have or harbor any of these terrorists is a particularly smart.
