Bachmann’s Son Joins AmeriCorps Program, Which She Once Called A ‘Re-education Camp’ Unfit For Her Kids


Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is not a fan of AmeriCorps, the successful federal program that offers Americans the opportunity to serve at local and national nonprofit organizations. Earlier this year, Congress passed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which expanded AmeriCorps and increased volunteer opportunities at home and abroad. The right wing went into a frenzy over this national service “boondoggle,” and Bachmann took to the House floor and called AmeriCorps “re-education camps for young people“:

I believe that there is a very strong chance that we will see that young people will be put into mandatory service. And the real concerns is that there are provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people, where young people have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go to work in some of these politically-correct forums. As a parent, I would have a very, very difficult time seeing my children do this.

Ironically, Bachmann’s son, Harrison, has now joined Teach for America (TFA). According to the TFA website, “Teach For America is currently a member of AmeriCorps, the national service network.” The Serve America Act, which she voted against, supports programs such as TFA.

Tony Benn, one of the most left-wing British politicians, comes from an extremely aristocratic background, for example (he had to renounce a peerage to be able to take his seat in Parliament).

One of the funnier examples that I know is that of Sir Cyril Black, right-wing Tory MP for Wimbledon, where I lived as a child, and my parents' MP though they didn't vote for him. Unusually for a British politician, he was very much a religious-right type, and among much else was a strong campaigner against all sorts of gambling. I just found out that his grandson Andrew Black was co-founder of the large internet bet exchange Betfair!

does he belong to any group planning to promote Christain values in the Program. If he is political and religious in his activism, it's the same as the campaign that has been going on for forty years to put Republcians on school boards, government offices from township to federal, courts, media, military, voting machine business, federal law offices - they have been very samrt to quietly infiltrate and we have been able to have it unpeeled and revealed. At the federal level - the seigelman case is a perfect example. Everyone has their local tales.

We need more info first before praising the boy. I hope he has a mind of his own.

Don't forget NPR - Burton and Helms led a fight against funding. NPR must have promised them Republican news and comment, because we never heard a word again thr the Burton-Helms pushers.

Big rant in Congress by Bachmann - if he's of like mind - it will be typical moving on in. Christianize it.
