Honestly, I think I'm going to check out of DU for awhile
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 11:34 PM by liberalpragmatist
I'm following the health care debate very closely and I very much go up and down daily about whether it's going to pass and in what form. But the near-daily freakouts on DU are getting very distracting. Any legislative battle - particularly one over 1/7 of the US economy - is going to be messy and there are going to be good days and bad days.

Does that mean I think everything is fine and dandy? No. It's very possible we'll end up with a bad bill. It's very possible we'll end up with a good bill. But I'm not going to learn that outcome until it happens and until then the daily hysteria is a bit much for my tastes.

12. The OP and your reply are what the trolls want
This is what the apologists or the town hall shout-downs want.
This is what the sort of person who puts a blue dog in his sig line wants.
This is what Republicans want.

They want you to give up. They want you to step down from single payer. They want you to concede that it's not possible here.

They want you to be financially crippled for the rest of your life because your kid got sick. They want you to suffer. They couldn't care less if you died due to denial of care.

They don't want you to figure out that it's because of them.

They don't want a single payer plan, or a "public option", or anything of the kind.

The Republicans and the Blue Dogs want you to die if you can't "pay your own way" regarding medical costs. There's no possible way to put it any simpler.

14. I said I should take a break from DU because I'm sick of people here wanting to focus
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 12:50 AM by Pirate Smile
on attacking Obama instead of going after the Republicans and trying to keeps the Democrats together so we can pass the strongest friggin bill possible.

I've seen most Dem bashing on here tonight. When we are in the midst of a battle with lying, selfish asshole Republicans, I just don't have a lot of patience for the Dem bashing or acting like Dems and Republicans are the same. After the previous 8 years I think anyone who says that crap is an idiot.

I may not have been clear. :)

15. It's also what the Obama-haters, doomers, WSWS-Trotskyites and "let it failers" of DU want
They've made it clear that they want Obama and the Democrats to fail, they want health care reform to fail and they want the entire world economic system to fail so that it can satisfy their sense of doom and gloom -- and ostensibly so that "they" can then rebuild the world along the lines of their non-numerate socialist fantasies.

NB: I say "non-numerate socialist" because I actually believe some form of socialism is the best economic system and have actually worked in a socialist country on economic reforms, but in the real world, socialists can read spread sheets, calculate interest rates, and do other "numerate" functions to build a viable economy, while our Limbaugh Left are just innumerate, economically illiterate nihilists.

3. I'm going to spend more time in the Lounge and the other Topic Forums.
I agree with you completely, but the drama in GD and GDP over the health reform is wearing on my last nerve.

5. I'm just igoring it all here now, and starting to...
hide threads. It's tough enough to follow what's going on out there without the constant hysteria around here.

It seems apparent that something will be done, but I doubt many will be overjoyed with it.

6. Sometimes small doses of DU are better....
As a former addict, I've been forced to back off. Now that we're in charge politically, my worst fears have lessened and the intensity of my interest has declined a bit. Step back when you need to....

7. I check in daily to see what the latest freak-out is about
because I'm curious, but not because I want to partake in the hyperventilating.

8. Okay. If you find valid info elsewhere, please share!
Taking breaks are a very good thing. Just make sure you get both sides of the story.

9. I'll still be paying attention to the health care debate
I follow Ezra Klein's blog, Jon Cohn's blog (The Treatment on The New Republic's website), the TAPPED blog, and the ThinkProgress blog. I also follow the news at the NYT and Talking Points Memo.

10. "Daily hysteria" just about describes it. I was gone for about 2 weeks and it was very helpful....
Of course I was on an actual vacation and thousands of miles away from my computer, so that was a big help too. I came back on board slowly. It seems the place rattled on as usual without me, going off like bagged popcorn at regular intervals.

Enjoy your time off!

Hekate
