How Do The Racists Stand Watching Pro & College Sports?
They can't stand that a black man is president, yet they watch football, baseball and all kinds of other sports that have huge numbers of minority super stars. Do they watch these athletes thinking the whole time that they took a job away from a white man? Or is about authority and who's leading the teams (ie: the predominantly white coaches and owners)?

Or, is there some huge disconnect that defies explanation?

1. Maybe they disagree with Obama politically, not just with the color of his skin?

7. The OP distinctly said racists
Sure there are people who just disagree with his policies, but that's not who the OP is referring to.

Edited on Sat Aug-08-09 09:46 PM by MercutioATC
EVERYBODY who disagrees with Obama is racist.

Geez, didn't you read the manual?

;)

(the OP did specifically single out "racists", but I get your point)

11. Or some of the people who disagree with Obama are racist.
And that is qualified in the OP.

I don't think there is much doubt about that. Really.

14. I see that. Thanks for pointing it out.
I'm probably just too slow of a typist. We are under a tornado warning here so I'm trying to do two things at once. The all clear just sounded though. :hi:

Congrats on the all-clear. I used to live in tornado alley (Illinois) so I've had my share of dinners in the basement :)

18. I'm sorry for missing it.

It did take a while to type it up so I was just assuming we just crossed paths. My bad.

We live just north of the river and all of the tornadoes tend to hit on the other side. We got surprised last year when one went through my neighbor across the street's backyard. That tornado killed a little boy in the next couple of towns over. I've been around these parts for over 50 years and have only ever seen a tornado on this side of the river one other time (over 40 years ago). We pay closer attention now.

Fun isn't it?

Edit - punctuation.

2. I suppose that to some of them Sports is like having people dance for them.
It's entertainment.

Historically, minorities who were entertainers have enjoyed access to all manner of advantages that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

Sports is entertainment for the masses.

Though there aren't a lot of minorities in NASCAR, AFAIK.

4. 'cause it's okay to be ENTERTAINED
by "them", doncha know?

Besides, most of them know damn well that most black athletes ARE better than most white athletes. (Here's a very good book on the controversial subject:

8. They've gotten used to minorities in sports
had they been around when Jackie Robinson moved to the majors, it would have been a whole different thing.

I'm sure for a lot of them it is just a knee jerk political response and has nothing to do with Obama's race but for others that is the issue whether they admit it or not. A Black POTUS who is obviously smarter than they are, is a threat to their self image.

19. racists and entertainers
Ever heard of the Cotton Club? It was a white only club where all the entertainers were black. White racists have always allowed their entertainers to be black and athletes are noting if not entertainers.

21. Minorities as entertainment? Yes. Minorities as authority figures? HELL NO.
As someone else said above, it's the threat to their perceived racial superiority that's driving them nuts.

26. easy.
The quarterback is the player on the field who gives the orders. The racist doesn't like the idea of a black guy giving orders. He could probably deal with a black guy receiving a pass or blocking a tackle, just not telling other people what to do.

by the TV, film screen, stage platform, basketball court foul stripe, football field wall, boxing ring, etc. It's safe.

31. LOL. This is true.
I remember watching college football with my BF's grandfather and uncle (I realized both are racist assholes) a few years ago and they were LIVID that a black guy had took the place the injured white quaterback. They talked plenty of trash. When the black guy started kicking ass and doing great, both of them got quiet. My BF and I started cheering on the guy knowing it was pissing them off and making them feel stupid. Later on we went into the kitchen and laughed at them for being idiots.

35. That's different, blacks ok to entertain.
It's really very simple. All those athletes still answer to "the man", who is white (unless there are some black team owners I don't know about).

Just like our former black, female SOS. Some here wondered about that, but she served the man so it was ok.

36. They watch hockey.
At least my brother does. My friend who knows him suggested that it's because there are virtually no minorities playing, unlike basketball, football, baseball, even horse racing. The only sport he ever watches is hockey and the more RW he became, the more obsessed he was about hockey... and cowboys.
