What happened to this? --- McCain to Filibuster Cash for Clunkers
http://washingtonindependent.com/53456/mccain-to-filibu...

By Mike Lillis 7/31/09 4:47 PM

The opposition to the $2 billion extension of the cash for clunkers program that passed the House today is lining up in the Senate, which is expected to take up the measure next week. The latest critic is Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who told Fox News today that hell filibuster the bill.

I not only wouldnt vote for the extra two billion, I was opposed to the initial billion, McCain said.

3. He's counting on the Democrats invoking cloture and saving his ass..
this is grandstanding for the base...

I think it would be funny for the Democrats to make him actually go out on the Senate floor and actually filibuster the bill all by himself and NOT invoke cloture... he would piss off SO many Americans who want to buy a car or who make or sell them... he'd quickly become about as popular as Michael Richards at an NAACP convention.

7. Wasn't this vote filibuster proof? I thought they got over 60 in support.
Even John McCain can count.

13. Still the count was 60 for, 37 against.
A couple of Republicans voted for it. There was no chance for a filibuster.

8. He thought he should have gotten cash for new golf clubs
because his golf clubs are just as necessary as our transportation to work, right? (I'm not kidding about this, it was his argument)

Cash for clunkers didn't benefit him or any of the members of his rich wife's class so it was a terrible program that made poor people uppity.
