We are in the middle of a teachable moment in our history
We are living in a time when the embodiment of the word "ignorant" is raging on in the town square in opposition to their own best interests. They are doing this in support of the very entity that would pick their pockets and then their bones.

2. It's 'teachable' to me to once again prove how some people can
vocally argue against their best interests because someone encourages them to, but teachable to them?

I don't think so.

And I love the word 'fringe'. Vocal fringe, hopefully with not too many ignoramuses.

3. The answer here is "educate them". There has to be a way.

6. How?
Most of their 'fringe' don't like the fact that a black man is running this country, so will believe and/or do anything requested of them. And I really believe that's what this pushback is about.

And don't forget, they 'loved' idiot son. That's a pretty powerful curve to overcome.

11. True but that is not all of them. Only a portion. I will bet that a percent of them do not know
any better. I mean, I had to tell my mother today about what was going on with Blackwater. The newspapers do not cover it. She is not on computer. America in her darkest moments, has benefited on the backs of the ignorant.
I think there needs to be a "fact check" program accessible and in their face. I really don't know but it has to be done. Otherwise we will continue to descend into hell.

4. In these times, "Ignorant" could be used as a noun
When speaking with Republicans:

"Listen, Ignorant, he was born in Honolulu."

"Hey, Ignorant, stop the OxyContin, it's going to hurt your inner ear!"

"Ignorant, please, for the last time, Sarah doesn't want to go out with you."

14. It is so important for the right wing and some churches
to make ignorance a virtue. They cannot make money off smart people.

16. Excellent description.
I've just gone thru a "discussion" with one which I knew was impossible to win, as Chuck Norris is now onboard.

How can otherwise intelligent people go so limp in the head?

18. It'll "teach" how hopeless our situation is.
Nobody here wants to fight back. They would rather let the right wing thugs beat up Democratic representatives, and write a stern LTTE later.

Whoever coined the phrase "teachable moment" should be the next to face the firing squad. The proper phrase is "resignation to fate."
