Even a 6-year old recognizes rudeness.

26. I understand that and I also would like some answers about how to
deal with them. We are not going to get the message out if this keeps up and I am willing to bet that they are scaring our congress reps. If we do not get out there to those meetings we are going to lose the bill. It is time for all good citizens to stand up and be heard. Outshout them if nothing else.

As to defeating fascism - well it took a war the last time and we were on the good side. How we defeat it from within I do not know.

28. Arresting them on even
relatively minor charges will put a stop to their nonsense. It will require them to deal with the judicial system, including attending court, and possibly hiring an attorney, copping a plea, and having a record. For those being bused by the rabid republican machine, the added espenses will become "on their dime."

Yes when you get arrested you get sent to jail for a period of time. Locking them up implies that you want them imprisoned.

32. Dr. Gates was arrested for being tumultuous in public and these guys are beyond that
The single payer advocates who tried to get a seat at the table were arrested for speaking up in public.

These actions by the insurance financed advocates are inciting to civil disobedience as well as being 'tumultuous' - sounds like a reasonable charge to me.

58. You set up rules
You fore warn everyone that you will protect the safety of everyone in attendance. No shouting over others so they cannot be heard. No screaming at others when they ask a question. No interrupting others when they are speaking. Raise your hand if you have a question. Sit in your chair unless you are asking a question.

Then you warn them that if they violate these rules that they will be asked to stop and if they don't comply they will be asked to leave. If they refuse, you ask the police officers you have hired to protect the other citizens from thugs to remove the disruptor. If they resist the police officers efforts to escort them out, well, ask Prof. Gates.

These congressman have the responsibility to protect the safety of the people attending their events. They also have the responsibility to protect the rights of free speech for all of the people attending these town hall meetings.

40. When people break the law
as part of their public protests, they should expect to be arrested. In fact, they should welcome it.

I think that your question shows either a lack of familiarity with Code Pink, or a lack of appreciation for their bravery in participating in protests where they know they will face legal consequences.

They are taking part in the long history of protests against war and violence, and willingly accepting the legal charges. This is the same as the Berrigan Brothers, and more recently, the St. Patrick's Four. There is a strength found in challenging the system, and using the courts as a way to voice conscience.

Comparing the disruptors in the health care meetings to these folks is like confusing shit and sugar.

Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 08:51 PM by moondust
Do they try to shut things down? Inhibit and intimidate?

I think not. As far as I know they simply try to make themselves heard at times when somebody is listening.

And what happens to Code Pink when they speak out at congressional hearings? They are eventually escorted from the room. As should be these corporate stooges who are interfering with democratic proceedings.

Code Pink look like angels compared to these organized political terrorists. Let's not confuse the free expression of dissent with attempts to silence the free speech and public discussion of others.

This utter bullshit gives me some insight into the reason Bush hand picked his crowds for townhall meetings. This is the type of behavior they expected from us. They were such control freaks that they created 'Free speech Zones' well away from the camera of the news reporters. It gave a false sense that everyone in America loved the Iraq war and that Bush commanded some kind of respect. God, what a punk that waste of skin turned out to be.

But silencing the oppo through force does not breed democracy, it breeds tyranny. We did not peacefully depose a tyrant last november, only to put on our own jackboots and impose our own brand of tyranny. President Obama doesn't want that, I don't want that, and I believe that you really don't want that either. You are likely tired, outraged and angry. "Tea Baggers FAIL to disrupt Health Care meeting, lessons shared."

by Don Briggs

Share this on Twitter - Tea Baggers FAIL to disrupt Health Care meeting, lessons shared. Mon Aug 03, 2009 at 10:50:13 PM PDT

The Democratic Alliance of Northwest Indiana (DANI ) hosted a meeting with Rep. Pete Visclosky (D, IN-01), on Monday, Aug. 3, 6:30 PM. We invited the public and their written questions. It seems good to share with the Daily Kos readership some lessons we learned.

Bottom line:
• We had an orderly and productive meeting.
• No one stood up, shouted out and sat down.
• At no point was our Congressman or audience rattled.
• DANI accomplished its objective. We provided the public an opportunity to question our Congressman about Health Care and Clean Energy.
• Tea Baggers came out in force, but they failed to disrupt the meeting.
• Local reporters attended.

"Lessons learned follow below the fold."
