Be Careful Things are getting nasty
local party had a booth at the county fair this past weekend. This is in a traditionally republican area.
I did not spend any time at the booth because well---my kid got married and
i sort of had other stuff planned for me.
but the report from the people who were there.
Some of the crowd was awful.

We had a volunteer spat on

We had a fair participant arrested for harrassment i guess--the stupid fool
kept it up right infront of the local police and then refused to produce id for them.....

a goodly number of birthers

a fair number os just plain racists. "take your black president back to Kenya with you-where you belong" etc etc

So be careful--the loonies are out of their caves and now feel free to express their sickness.
This is what is new.......
Being a complete ASSHOLE in public is beooming acceptable.

Be careful
phyical confrontations are not far off.

1. Where was the local booth at? Sounds nasty. They no longer feel the need to hide

behind their computers. A Youtube of them acting like that would be powerful. The birther-teabagger-RW nutbag racist should be easy to establish.

24. That's sad. Cedarburg is a lovely little town. It relies on the tourist trade.
I wonder what the business owners would think if it became widely known what a hotbed of racism their town is......it COULD affect business income, and not in a good way.

Actions DO have consequences, Cedarburg.

2. I would say that the main thing is not to be
intimidated.

Never be an asshole back, instead quietly but firmly stand your ground. The "birthers"(and what a stupid name that is -- I'd prefer something more accurate like ignoramus)are simply wrong, and must be told so at every opportunity.

3. It's just a matter of time.
I think the 60's are going to look like a picnic before this is over. ALL of this stuff is racially and/or religiously motivated, and being funded by large corporations who stand to gain financially by keeping the status quo. It's getting more and more dangerous every day. Time for the Govt. to call it what it really is-DOMESTIC TERRORISM.

6. Is it possible that spitting on someone can be construed as an assault?
Seem to recall some guys who spat on cops being busted for assault here and there a few years ago.

With the various diseases going around, I would take it as a serious threat.

17. After thoughts, yes, that is why I bring it up. Maybe we can remember next time?
And anyone alone in a booth from now on should be armed with a video camera of some sort, owned or borrowed for the occasion. Time to nail the assholes.

When they know there is a chance of being held accountable by pictures and/or sound recording, most cowards will slink off to the shadows. Amazing what a recording device can to to maintain civility. Been there, done that ;)

15. In California, spitting on someone is assault. Not sure about other states.
But I agree, it should universally be considered an assault on another, punishable by law.

it is considered fighting words.
Many cops will not arrest you for kicking the ass of someone who spits on you. They consider doing so to be a case of self defense.

34. It most certainly is an assault.
The problem is proving it and linking it to the perpetrator. That is where a video of the action is especially valuable.

19. volunteers are the key
Our local chair had a really really really hard time getting volunteers for the booth this year.
Poor thing was at the booth by herself for alot of hours.

God damn republicans have their crazies all over the place and we have trouble getting somenone to sit in a tent.....but that is another rant.

We MUST be carefull about putting our folks in harms way with these fools.

37. I may speak
to a couple of friends who are good attorneys, about the possibility of "citizen's arrests" in these situations. On one hand, I think the people promoting this stupid type of uncivil action are beginning to see it is backfiring. But once a group of jackasses are unleashed, they tend to need to be put in check.

12. I could never understand..
I don't think I will ever understand how hate could possibly consume so many people.

I wasn't born until after the Civil Rights Movement, and my Dad has shared so many painful experiences from that period. It seems somewhat surreal that people can carry that much hate with them, but now I think I'm capturing a glimpse of what he experienced.

13. They do this bcause the GOP have learned that Intensity wins.
The side who shows the most intense anger apparently frightens
the Media.

Bill Schneider, Political Analyst for CNN has explained this
often in the past.

Put aside the whackos, he explained this using the Conservatives.
There are more Democrats than Republicans registered in this country.
However, it is Republicans who can be counted on to vote in every
election. Add to this the fact that the Conservatives through their
behavior are considered more intense in their beliefs and therefore
more intense in their demands.

Bingo, the Conservatives win. The same applies to the whackos.

It might be past time for Liberals and Progressives to show some
intensity????

20. The GOP/Corporate puppet masters count on the crazies. They aim to silence us by intimidation
My ol momma always said: I best not every hear of you starting a fight, but when somebody else does, I had BETTER hear you finished it!

Now, she didn't mean for us to wander around looking for trouble, but that we had better not stand down and let any bullies intimidate us.

27. meh, it's human nature to back away from perceived danger
But, since most of what I feared never happened, I try to swallow down the fear and face the threat. It usually is just a mirage. It is also wise to plan for the contingency that it is not a mirage and have an action in mind. ;)

Bullies are basically cowards counting on using fear to protect their own hide. Stand ground, count on being punched from time to time (figuratively as well as literally) and know you will survive and thrive. The bully will turn tail when it finds out you don't spook easy.

Sadly, as with any behavior modification program, the unwanted behavior generally increases for a spell. It's bully's way of saying 'Perhaps you didn't hear my growl and become suitably terrified. I shall growl again'. Hold the ground and let bully know you see through him.

and VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO. Cowards hate the risk of being held accountable for actions. ;(
