Ben Nelson undecided on Sotomayor

Nelson undecided on Sotomayor

By DON WALTON / Lincoln Journal Star | Posted: Wednesday, July 29, 2009 2:20 pm | Loading…

Sen. Ben Nelson said Wednesday he has not decided whether he will vote to confirm Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Nelson said he'll delay his decision until next week's scheduled Senate vote.

"I accept her judicial philosophy of fidelity to the law," Nelson said during a telephone conference call from Washington.

Nelson said he also believes Sotomayor is committed to supporting settled judicial precedent.

But, he said, he needs to "convince myself she won't be an activist" on the court.

2. Omaha is hugely military and conservative but elected Bob Kerrey as Gov and Sen, overwhelmingly.
How did we get Nelson? (Lived there 5 years)

3. Can We Just Have Him Switch Parties?

Just invite him to, or kick him out. Harry Reid doesn't think that 60 votes means anything anyway.

5. Ben Nelson: Just another stellar example of why I'm an independent liberal and NOT a "Democrat."
It'd curdle my snot to think a single penny of my financial political support went to aiding this cockroach. He's disgusting.

11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall Ben voting FOR Roberts and Alito.

Funny how Ben keeps calling himself a "Democrat" ... if there's absolutely no ideological component in party affiliation then it's power for power's sake and is incompatible with public interest and truly representative democracy.

I detest partisanship. It's almost a guarantee of hypocrisy.

Nelson definitely voted for Alito.
Only four Democrats — Senators Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Tim Johnson of South Dakota and Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia — voted for confirmation (of Alito).
