LTTE to my senator
The Senate is considering dropping the Public Option? Is this nuts? Look, the best system to solve the problems in the US is a single payer system. That will not happen, never mind the American People are in favor of this.

What will it take for the Representatives and Senators to represent us and not the money interests? Perhaps it will take a literal revolt for those in DC to realize that WE the people employ you.

Yes, I know, this is no longer useful, and it is getting to the point where I am losing complete faith in the power of the ballot. I know this is the preferred view of the GOP, why I will continue to vote, but not because I have any faith in the system.

By the way, you have the majority in the Senate, a SUPER MAJORITY. How come the Minority Party has this power? Or did the budget rules in Sacramento become the rules in DC too?

Sincerely,

Nadin ****. who is disgusted. What is the next excuse? We need a super. super majority to do what the people demand?

1. It's not about "majority" -
I think everyone understands that by now.

It's about to whom the legislators are beholden. It's about lobbyists and money and campaign contributions. It's about holding on to their seats and winning re-election.

The people don't matter. Having enough money to buy elections matters, so the legislators are going to do whatever their owners tell them to do.

To think otherwise is to have deliberately closed one's eyes to reality................................

2. Corprorate Influence
It's obvious that we need public campaign financing. Throw the money changers out of the (people's)temple.

4. It's the only way -
as far as I can see.

Unless things change, we're bystanders and we'll take whatever they deign to give us..............................

5. Maybe totally unrelated
but I just heard, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," playing in my head.

I'm so disappointed.

8. "... and I see it needs sweeping ... "
Yeah, your head is right on tonight.

Me, too, kiddo. Me, too.

You know, in 2000, when the election was stolen from Gore, I swore I'd never vote again, but four years later, I found something in Kerry, someone to believe in. And he folded and let Ohio go, and I swore, never again.

I was, of course, behind Hillary Clinton when she announced, and decided I'd pull out my voter registration card again, but then there was Obama, and I was behind him all the way.

This time, I'm afraid that this time, I'll make that vow again, and I'll keep to it. I'm too old to keep getting jacked around.

The other day, I likened this to the girl who gets invited to the prom by a really cute boy. And she gets the dress, gets her hair done, her parents have the cameras ready, she's all dressed up and waiting, as beautiful as she's ever been, and the boy doesn't show up.

I'm feeling like that girl......................................

9. I'll never vote again
I've never felt that before.... but I'm feeling it now.

I'm "only" 55, but I feel really raked over the coals right now.

I gonna go watch my guilty pleasure, Hell's Kitchen. :)

11. I got a few years on you, kid,
but I'm done, I really am.

This one just took the last bit of heart out of me.

Mine is "Real Housewives," and the Atlanta chicks are back on Thursday. I can't WAIT!

7. One solution
Public financing of elections. Take the money out of the equation, and take away the biggest advantage the moneyed interests have. Our elected officials should be a little more worried about us and our votes than they are about where they'll get some fat campaign contributions.

10. Exactly but at this point I feel we the people need to think
of things like national strikes and other measures. They won't listen to us mere voters.

3. The Democrats have already screwed themselves.
They were so busy stuffing campaign cash in their pockets and jockeying for future Board and V.P. positions, that they didn't notice the People watching them. They think that there is no way a 30% Republican can beat them, but they seem to forget that they need people to actually get out and vote for them to win over a 30% Republican.

I can already hear the Democratic Pundits talking after the 2010 & 2012 Elections... 'I just don't understand why people would vote against their best interests.' *

* Tip for Democratic Pundits, Politicians, & minions:
When you only offer chump change token effort shell games and DO NOT represent the Peoples' best interests, they will NOT vote for you or even bother to show up at the polls, so you can win against a 30% Republican.

6. I fear people will decide that if they want to get health care
and a series of other progressive reforms they will have to take it, the same way labor got the 40 hour week. It was bloody... and not just a figure of speech at this point.
