In one single show over 4 minutes, Imus and his producer hit on the following topics:

- Beating up faggots.
- Knocking over Jewish tombstones.
- Setting homeless bums on fire.
- Anderson Cooper taking it in the poop chute.
- Obama as a colored man.
- Homos.
- Wishing that some "sissy" on American Idol be the victim of a vicious hate crime.
- Shaving Rosie O'Donnell's bush, you'd need a weed wacker.

It certainly can't come as a surprise to anyone that he's a total bigot. x(

13. Perhaps because he's a bigot with airtime
just look at the cast of characters who appear
as guests on his show - they are all flakking for something
whether it's for votes, customers or vanity.
But now that Donny is PR poison, only the die-hard asskissers
will be showing up on that show. I guess that leaves Bo Dietl.

15. He's worse than a mere bigot,
but I can't think of a more vile word for him. And, he spews all of this with such cynicism, such a self-absorbed certainty that he is above criticism. His narcissism is so evident, and people have been kissing his ass for so long. I watched him this morning to see what he would offer, and I found many instances that he is clueless, for example, he kept claiming that there is horrible racism in the African American community, with light-skinned Blacks hating dark-skinned Blacks. In other words, he was calling Blacks hypocritical. He also kept referring to the rappers lyrics denigrating females. You see, he isn't honestly contrite, because he can't accept his own faults without faulting others. "Everyone does it, so my behavior isn't as bad as you think it is."

19. Hi Thom!
:hi:

Anyway, I'm all for the First Amendment. Imus does have the right to be a bigot. However, I don't think he should be paid to spout his bigotry, use the public airways for free, & keep his job. I for one am upset that he didn't get canned & that his suspension doesn't start until NEXT week, all because of his ranch. Well, if it's THAT important to him, & he knows he's created some negative publicity, then he should step aside & let someone else handle the fund-raising they're doing for the ranch this week. And maybe have his name taken off of the ranch as well. I'm all for helping kids with cancer, but I'm not giving a dime to anything with his name on it.

He certainly has a right to his personal throughts, but nobody has a right to spew that hate to the public.

More importantly, he shouldn't be using our public airwaves to do it.

Not at all. The First Amendment guarantees that the GOVERNMENT will not censor your speech -- but everybody else has the right to do that if they own the property you're trying to speechify on. It's normally called editorial control.

I'm watching the press conference with the Rutgers team right now and some fuckwit reporter just HAD to pull the "but what about raaaap lyrics!!! :eyes: I didn't hear who it was or where he was from but I'm going to assume he's a right winger.

And reading that b.s. here on DU is just infuriating. Mike Malloy was much more cogent than I could ever be about it when he blasted white males who complain about not being able to use racist and misogynistic slurs because some rappers do it as part of their performance art.

I guarantee you there is/will be at least one "but what about the raaaaappers comment in this thread.

28. So, if Imus Was a Rapper ...
... everything he said would be just expressions of his 'urban culture' experience?

Frankly, I think the "what about rap lyrics" is a good counter argument.

Racist and misogynistic slurs are wrong no matter who uses them ... especially to make money.

30. So if a rapper says something racist and misogynistic, you get to say it too.
But why, pray tell, should the Rutgers team have to answer a "what about the rappers" question at their press conference? What was the point of that? To let them know that they have no right to be offended at being called nappy haired hos by a famous white male because rappers say things like that?

I'm kind of ambivalent about things like that. Is it better to spread resources across a lot of people, so that they each get a little help, or to focus a lot on a lucky few? I feel the similarly about the girls' school that Oprah started in Africa. It's great for the few girls who are accepted, but what about the rest?

7. Rosie was one of Imus's
defenders today on The View saying that we should weigh 40 years of his career against "four words" and not hold this against him. Since she admitted she never listened to him I wish she would have kept her trap shut. She obviously doesn't know that Imus does this stuff all the time while John McCain, David Gregory, Tim Russert, Howard Fineman or Andrea Mitchell chortles and acts like he sooooooooo frigging hilarious. She was blowing smoke out of her ass and it was misleading and incorrect to act as though Imus doesn't have a long history of this behavior. It sucked agreeing with Elizabeth Hasselback - for once that neocon bimbo was right: Imus should be fired.

Imus and some people here seem to think that the good work done on Imus's ranch and other charities excuses his mysogenist/racist/homophobic show.

Just because one does good works, doesn't give license to do bad things!

Think of all of the worlds "bad" people....did their occasional good works erase the bad things they did?

Imus seems to think that he HAD A LICENSE TO BE homophobic/racist/mysogenist/hateful BECAUSE he did good works. His supporters in the punditocracy seem to think so too.

59. And the way he talks about the kids on that ranch. It's like a "tough love" camp
where he describes he and Deidra making sick kids feel proud of themselves by forcing them to get on a horse that they are scared of riding. He takes pride in talking about how they get these kids into shape with their self esteem... That may work for some kids but what about the others?

The kids are probably very well screened as to those who can stand what they have to go through...but that makes the Imus Ranch more of a Boot Camp than an educational experience about how a ranch is run.
The way he talks about the kids always worried me as to what went on there.

29. Thank you for pointing that out....
I have been shocked at the Imus defenders.

I often fall asleep with the 9:00pm Keith show on. I can't tell you how many times I have woken the next day to the Imus show and, more importantly, some completely bigoted remark either he or his cohorts are making. Every freakin' time!

I have tried to give the guy a chance over the years, but within ten minutes of waking I am crawling out of bed to turn the channel because I cannot tolerate his antiquated, white, he-man, bullshit. That kind of talk may have been exceptable 50 years ago in the locker room of the members' only golf club, but it does NOT fly today.

As for free speech, can can blather all he wants about "ho" and "homos" and "jiggaboos" -- that is his constitutionally guaranteed free speech -- but there is no guarantee that he get paid for such drivel.

78. might i suggest
checking to see if your TV has a Timer Off or Time Delay off switch. It would most definitely be in the Menu section if you still have your remote. Or check your manual (if you still have that...)

it'll save on 'lectricity too!

31. but, but he givs so much money to good causes - how can we not be grateful?
Of course this latest one is no exception to his usual hate mongering.
And seing the Rutgers press conference with the victims of his latest - just reminded me - this is not an abstract issue - but real flesh and blood people got attacked. To defend that is unthinkable to me!

*That* was satire. What Imus does is pass hate speech off as humor.

They are onlt propagandists when invited by RNC...
Anus has a McCain campaign link on his site, BTW. How can't a funny man like him see the humor in McCain's run? someone called him "equal opportunity insulter"

43. there is no defense for his offensive "sense of humor". Malloy said it
best last night when he essentially called him a juvenile arrogant prick who is fixated in a misogynist male teenage mentality. And I believe that anyone who thinks this is simply humor or enjoys this filth ought to examine their core values.

68. As bad as this is, what does this say for MSNBC?
Does it need ratings/money THAT badly that it's willing to ignore crap like this? Same goes for the syndicator of his show.

This is pure abuse of the airwaves, and I think the FCC should review what it considers to be actionable and what is not. If CBS was taken to the cleaners over a split-second shot of Janet Jackson's breast, then MSNBC, CBS, Westwood One, and whoever the hell else puts this stuff out ought to be held to the same standard.

I wasn't impressed enough to keep listening. Now I know why, just another smirking, smart mouthed asshole. Suspension is too good for him, take him off the air for good. Charity begins in the heart, not the pocketbook.
