Catholic Church denies global warming
Another Saturday at the Catholic Mass and the neocon alkie priest delivered another doozy- he condemned socialism and used neurolinguistics to have the pew sitting pious people believe that it is either communism or naziism and that it is godless; then he said that global warming is a myth and that we actually have global cooling and that the term "climate change" was created to cover up the fact that there is no global warming

Where is the IRS when you need it?? Wonder what church finances would reveal given that the priest delivers these neocon talking points so overtly. Seems like Rovianism is as prevalent as ever.

1. Report him to the Vatican.
The Pope has gone green, there are solar panels at the Vatican, and he has lectured people on human stewardship of the earth.

34. Why do you hate all Catholics?
That question makes as much sense.

The Catholic Church isn't in denial about global warming; in fact, the current Pope has made strong statements in favor of taking action.

One little parish priest is in denial; there are idiots in all walks of life.

4. Global warming threatens world’s security, existence, Vatican tells U.N.
Edited on Sat Jul-25-09 10:05 PM by mmonk
In an May 10 statement to the U.N. Economic and Social Council’s Commission on Sustainable Development on “Turning Political Commitments into Action, Working together in Partnership,” Archbishop Celestino Migliore, apostolic nuncio of the Holy See’s permanent mission to the U.N., stressed that the scientific evidence for global warming and mankind’s role in the increase of greenhouse gasses “becomes ever more unimpeachable” and its effects already impacting the world community.

... and is a proponent for stewardship of the earth.

While there are plenty of legitimate criticisms of the catholic hierarchy this really isn't one of them.

16. Alkie priest, neocon, and a position in opposition of the Vatican
drew my attention. While I know there are conservative priests and some that are not, I did know the official position of the Catholic Church though I will allow that a parish might have a rogue priest. But I thought I would post the official position should anyone get the wrong idea.

Which is usually what the people in the pews do, not the Priests.

12. don't worry about those who spend their time un recommending threads
(i just gave you a recommendation to help counteract it a bit)

my question is: where the hell is this church (state or near what city) just out of curiosity.

how do other people in the parish feel about this? do you know or ever talk about it? there might be another priest that also works at your church--ask him where you can complain about it, or how you go about it.

why not call the diocese?
and then take a minute (ha!) to inform the irs.

wonder if this priest is getting some heavy donations from someone in order to promote this right wing agenda crap.

wouldn't it be great if people started standing up in the middle of these "sermons" and calling these assholes out--saying shit like the pope would disagree with you! or are you trying to lose the tax exempt status?

or just get up and walk the fuck out in the middle of all the bullshit.

13. the church is in california and was also heavily involved in passing out
"vote yes on Prop. 8" signs and passing out postcards in church and asking for people's credit card numbers to donate to the campaign against Obama's stance on late term abortions.

thanks for the rec.

Just because the pope says something doesn't mean that his entire flock will follow suit - and there must be some reason for them to not follow suit

that he's a shit. i'd try to get him out of there. too many people take what these guys say as gospel. (unfortunately in this case). he's a bad influence.

The Catholic church =/= one idiot priest. As a matter of fact, the Catholic church as an institution has been reasonably good about acknowledging global warming (or climate change or whatever you like) and pointing out the practical and moral urgency of addressing the issue.

Thus, the OP is quite misleading. I don't unrec very often, but I do so for posts which are wildly inaccurate. No, I am not Catholic, or even Christian.

Edit: it was <0 before I got here. But I agreed with this and did the same thing, and the above is why.

15. I think this priest spends too much time listening to "Relevant Radio"
or, as I call it, nut-case Catholic radio. I've caught interviews they have with people who deny climate change.

The network is run by people who may be called "more Catholic than the Pope". A relative recommended it to me in the hope it would bring me back to the Church. I turn it on occasionally in the car because it reminds me why I lapsed. It really is run by a bunch of right wing turds who refer to Obama as the most "prodeath" president we've ever had (they loved Bush) and they led the charge against him speaking at Notre Dam. I forgot to turn it on when Obama met with the Pope but I'd imagine heads were exploding.
