After six months, President Barack Obama has shown us what he's made of, and so far his record is mediocre. Although he has shown leadership on some issues such as cutting funding for wasteful missile defense, most of his progressive policies seem to be made of air. Rhetoric is one thing, but signing off on coal mining, sending more troops to Afghanistan and a continued drift into secrecy are causing some progressives alarm. We offer a report card at the six-month mark, with a reality check of what's really going on in Washington.

It's been cooler, and I was at Pismo Beach all week working then with an extra couple days.

You still taking the big bike ride?

10. I got to ride from

here in Port Townsend to Portland OR, last month but my mother in law took a turn for the worse and then passed, real quick -So I cut the ride short by a couple hundred miles......Great ride though.

We are still selling off her stuff and the wife is almost back to normal.....I'll prolly not get another ride for another month or so - I am planning to come south after Labor Day to catch the end of the good weather in Oregon and Northern CA,

All the way to LA, if the weather holds......You'll get a visitor fer sure.....

Gladys - the MIL - had a full and astonishing life - she was a vaudeville performer, a stripper after that...she worked Jack Ruby's club in Dallas....married a low level gangsta who was a great stepfather to my lovely.

She was cast in "The King of Kings" in a small role and broke her back, and subsequently dropped from the film.


There are hundreds of stories about her - my wife ought to write a book.....
