Regarding President Obama's comments on the Gates incident...
Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?' Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular? But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right." Martin Luther King, Jr.

Just ran across this quote and it seemed appropriate.

8. It is a great quote. I would add "Is it authentic"

What I liked most about it was that it was Obama unguarded. He wasn't worried about finding the perfect word phrasing just sharing with us.

Usually the pundits harp that he is too careful in his presentation. When he speaks directly without considering every word they call him reckless.

12. black folks can do no right
speak your mind and you are labelled reckless, so you have to fumble around for the "right" thing to say to prove to the white men that you are one of the good ones.

Frankly we are tired of this shit.

9. I think this whole "controversy" underscores just how cowardly many Americans are
Small wonder how easy it was to lie people into war against a petty dictator, throw away their so called "highest principles" and turn America into a nation of torturers.

10. Sorry guys, but I think Obama's 'stupidity' comment was stupid politically.
I remember David Dinkins, New York mayor. In 1991, there was a brief street riot in Crown Heights between Hasidic jews and blacks, sparked by an auto accident. During a time when blacks were attacking Jews, Dinkins made a call for the police to hang back.

In truth, it was probably a smart strategic move. The riot simply ran down. And no one who knows Dinkins' history and patrician attitude would think that he was in favor of street thuggery or crime.

But it was the APPEARANCE of taking the side of blacks over whites that hurt Dinkins. It gave the racists some foothold. Dinkins lost the next election.

Let's not fool ourselves about Obama's off-the-cuff remark. It's going to hurt him, give the Birthers something new to latch on to.

21. Last thing in the world I want is for Obama to shut up about race.
But that particular comment was just not smart. It will cost him...

16. Obama's Opinion
A reporter asked his opinion about a controversial arrest and he gave it. What is the big deal?

IF, (and that's what Obama said) this man was arrested AFTER he showed his picture ID with his address on the ID to the officers, it was stoopid to arrest him.

I realize police officers have a tough job, and not everyone has the personality to be a police officer.
We read about those unsuited ones every day because they do stoopid things.
