It seems to be thematic that it is mostly cats shown after horrific accidents or "misadventures", but the whole rationale behind the clips has me baffled and angry. I think I will just turn Countdown off after the first 1/2 hour of news. :end rant:

1. agreed
I don't get it either. Mind you, injurious human misadventures are also presented as comedy rather more than I can tolerate. But then The Three Stooges made me cringe as my brother convulsed in laughter.

2. Are you talking about the cat that got trapped in the car hood?
Honestly, please! Cats tend to go for warm places and this cat was not the first to get trapped this way. The cat ended up unharmed. When have you ever seen a cat that was seriously injured being featured on Countdown? Keith has gone out of his way to mention that the animals he shows were not killed/hurt by their mishaps.

What is the "rationale" that upsets you so?

4. Please?
He shows cats that are terrified swatting at people's faces and attaching themselves to human legs, bears being drugged and falling out of trees onto the ground. There have been numerous features that are NOT cute and are presented with either the human or the animal suffering from the filmed act. I do not find it humorous or endearing.

7. The way I see it,
he's amused by animals being able to defend themselves when people act like idiots around them. And the bear that fell out of a tree fell onto a trampoline, for heavens' sakes.

I think humans deserve to suffer when they don't treat animals with respect. And I can't get too worked up about animals suffering mishaps that don't cause great harm in the end. And he doesn't show clips like that.

Jeez. At the end of the show he was discussing various news items with Mo Rocca and one of them was the story about Judy Giuliani having worked for a company that killed puppies in product demonstrations. They illustrated this by showing images of puppies with a disclaimer: "Pictures Not of Actual Puppies Killed By Mrs. Giuliani." Just in case you wondered.

11. Well, thanks for calling me an ass
just because I myself am a cat owner, and think some people are too sensitive.

I find that show too boring to watch on a daily basis. And sometimes its just not to my taste. They have shown clips from rodeos, bullfights etc. in the past and as someone who despises that stuff, I didn't care for that. I keep an eye out for the special comments, but maybe its just the times I have tuned in, there is always so much celebrity garbage and other stuff I find it too boring to sit through it in its entirety.
I think if he ever breaks free of effing MSNBC, he will have a show that is so much superior to this. He always looks bored and pained himself when he is going over all that fluff crap.

5. Yes. It is not a structure that he would endorse, IMO.
He usually is adept at distancing himself from the upcoming "fun" demanded from his producers to make it more "mainstream".

8. It's your choice.
But I don't think you'll ever see him in a job where he doesn't have producers to answer to or where he always sees eye to eye on them.

And of the bullfight clips: well, Keith makes it clear, he roots for the bulls to at least get their last licks in before their inevitable demises.

So much suffering and pain in the world and this is what people get offended about?
