1. I don't want them to rush through something crappy
for the sake of getting out early for recess.

It doesn't work on 5th graders that don't finish their seatwork, either.

2. They Have Had Sixty Years To Work On It
That's when HST first proposed it.

3. If another three months will get us something we can use...
My very real fear is that Congress will pass a bunch of meaningless fluff and call it a day.

What I want to see during recess is the good guys in Congress and the White House making the rounds in the public and in the backroom, twisting some serious arms to get what we need.

10. uh - you do understand that this is a delaying tactic, right?
And that the goal is not to work out something better, but to delay and delay and then kill the whole thing, right?

12. If they think it's going away - it's not.
But setting a hard deadline for passage will give the opposition more bargaining power in order to get a bill that they would support.

Keeping them in a room will make our side more likely to compromise - not theirs. They like things the way they are.

We need to play dirty during recess to get the bill we want.

5. The president has no control over congressional sessions.
Obama can request, demand, plead, cajole, etc, that Congress stay in session, what he cannot do is act to keep them there as he has no such authority.

7. First, I don't think he has that authority...
Second, I'd rather that Congress take their time to work out a good bill, rather than rush to get a bad one passed. We all know how much those Congress-critters love going home during the breaks. They dash out of D.C. faster than...than...uh...something that dashes out of someplace really fast (Sorry - I'm bad with my metaphors & similes).

8. Let 'Em Go Home And Face The Voters...And We Better Be There...
I already have the date of my Congresscritter's nearby town hall marked down and will be there with others in my area who want public option or single payer...and I would strongly suggest others (especially in "Blue Dog" Districts) to get in their faces.

Getting them out of the beltway before they vote is a good thing. The term "vacation" is mis-used as many spend a good portion of the time doing town halls and other public appearances. They need to see and hear from the millions who want change and reform...get them away from the lobbyists and beltway spinners.
