Let's agree that we're going to have PAYGO enforcement. That we're not going to cry 'emergency' every time we have a Katrina, every time we have a Tsunami, every time we have a need for extra spending, that we don't go call for a special appropriation that allows us to circumvent the PAYGO rules.

Congresswoman Blackburn, you are wrong. Nearly 1,500 people died as a result of Katrina. The notion that our budget process should forbid providing emergency aid to help save lives in future Katrinas isn't just crazy, it's cruel and inhumane.

P.S. The official death toll from Katrina is over 1,700. That does not count many still listed as missing, or who died (from heart failure, etc.) shortly after evacuating.

I was a great fan and admirer of George Carlin. He said an awful lot of things that were true.

4. Cruel, inhumane and unamerican

Americans help each other out, it's what we do. People in other countries do the same for their fellow citizens stricken by a sudden disaster. I don't think Ms. Blackburn is representative of very many of the people of Tennessee. What might her constituents say come 2010? Or will she turn out to be another two-faced Republican should her district get hit by a flood or a tornado, welcoming federal assistance and trumpeting her "clout" in getting relief dollars?

9. I now live here in East TN and unfortonately, she's not alone in her thinking.

There are a few of us "Blues" in the otherwise very Red part of the state and we do what we can.

In the area where I live, the majority watch Faux News and listen to Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, etc. It's disheartening at times.

By the time most hurricanes get to where she is they are just a bad rain storm.

She would have shit her drawers if she was where I was in 2004 when three canes
came through in six weeks time. And being a rethug, she would have screeched to
