Governor Jokes About Signing Cars

UPDATED: 2:25 pm PDT July 21, 2009

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A joking, smiling Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared in an online video Tuesday wielding a giant knife and suggesting he might even sign some state cars being sold to raise money to help cash-strapped California.

The video comes as the governor and lawmakers struggle to erase a $26.3 billion state deficit. The state Senate and Assembly are expected to vote later this week on a tentative budget plan.

"Hey guys, I just want to say thanks very much for all the great ideas you're giving me," Schwarzenegger said with a grin in a 27-second clip posted to TwitVid.

The governor last week ordered that some of the state's fleet be sold in a big "yard sale."

Schwarzenegger said he especially likes a suggestion to take advantage of his celebrity status by autographing some of the surplus vehicles to raise extra money.

"That's exactly what we're going to do," said Schwarzenegger, who pointed Web followers to the video via his Twitter account.

3. He is looking toward a Senate run and thinks his budget cuts will raise his numbers
among Republican primary voters. Unfortunately, the knife is a very bad symbol. His budget cuts may end up cutting more than a few of the throats of very unfortunate people -- the poorest in California. As families suffer this year, all will remember how proud Schwarzenegger was of having held that dagger in his hand. Let's don't let him forget this.
