McCain: "Well, again, I disagree with what the majority of the American people want."

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/04/60minutes/main2648779.shtml

<snip>

I believe that we can succeed and I believe the consequences of failure are catastrophic. Those who say 'Just withdraw,' then you say, 'What next?'" Sen. McCain says.

"I wonder at what point do you stop doing what you think is right and you start doing what the majority of the American people want?" Pelley asks.

"Well, again, I disagree with what the majority of the American people want. Failure will lead to chaos, withdrawal will lead to chaos," McCain replies.

1. No John, *invading* Iraq led to chaos. Get it?
Edited on Mon Apr-09-07 08:39 AM by mwb970
And John? Disagreeing with 70% of the public while making a fool of yourself in Baghdad and getting 21 people killed is not, repeat not, how to become president.

4. Go back and read the Constitution, John. You might find something
in there about your role as a representative, not a dictator.

6. McCain must know that he isn't going to win. Is he just raising

retirement money before he leaves office?

18. I was wondering about this very thing today.
He has to know, especially after the Iraq Market walk disaster, that he is DONE. I was wondering if he was just looking to build a war chest and favors and such so that he may retire with power and style.

"Of course I'm going to misspeak and I've done it on numerous occasions and I probably will do in the future. I regret that when I divert attention to something that I've said from my message but you know that's just life, and I'm happy frankly with the way I operate, otherwise it would be a lot less fun," McCain says.

"Fun" This douche thinks it's fun to try and con us into getting more Americans killed over there?

10. John - if withdrawal will lead to chaos, how will we tell the difference?
between chaos from withdrawal & chaos from occupation.

16. Yeah, he might not want to emulate someone who's polling, at best, in the mid-30's
McCain was neutered during the 2000 election. He's a spineless turd.

13. Withdrawal will lead to chaos ..
That's what McCain said. I wonder why the neo-idiot who
started this war didn't think of that before launching his
blitz-krieg ? Or did his plans always include a permanent
U.S. presence in Iraq ?

14. Disagreeing with the majority is no crime...
what interests me is when the Religious Right wants to have referenda in the country based on 'majority rule'...like whether there should be separation of church and state and the like.

Then, suddenly, the majority is of necessity, correct. Wotta bunch.

15. Talk about betting the house on the stupidity of the American public!
I mean: wow! I'm thought of as hard on people in some circles, but to tell voters to their face that they have NO reason to believe he'll do what they want him to do, if elected, and then ask for/expect their vote ANYWAY? Indeed, the public has every reason to believe that he'll do the OPPOSITE of what the public wants. And they're STILL supposed to vote for him?

This is a direct challenge of the never-disproved rule: No-one's ever gone broke betting on the stupidity of the American public. I'll be curious to see what kind of showing they make.

Hell even *I* can't go with McCain on the public being *that* stupid - this is possibly the first time I'm not willing to bet on the public's stupidity. Hopefully it won't be the last.

19. He might as well run as the Contrarian Candidate
He might get more votes that way as he would be an oddity. Whatever group he's in front of, giving a speech, he should completely disagree with them and then end the speech with, "And I hope I can count on your support in 2008."

His ego pushes him to seek the CIC job. His sub conscious is pushing him to lose because deep down he knows that he has betrayed his own principles time after time.
