Sarah Palin Writes...An Op-Ed In WaPo
Bless her heart!

The 'Cap And Tax' Dead End
By Sarah Palin

“There is no shortage of threats to our economy. America's unemployment rate recently hit its highest mark in more than 25 years and is expected to continue climbing. Worries are widespread that even when the economy finally rebounds, the recovery won't bring jobs. Our nation's debt is unsustainable, and the federal government's reach into the private sector is unprecedented.

Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges. So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be:

I am deeply concerned about President Obama's cap-and-trade energy plan, and I believe it is an enormous threat to our economy. It would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage.

American prosperity has always been driven by the steady supply of abundant, affordable energy. Particularly in Alaska, we understand the inherent link between energy and prosperity, energy and opportunity, and energy and security. Consequently, many of us in this huge, energy-rich state recognize that the president's cap-and-trade energy tax would adversely affect every aspect of the U.S. economy.

36. I think Bristol wrote it...
Edited on Tue Jul-14-09 05:32 AM by ecstatic
The Palins sat down together as a family with Google, found an anti-Obama topic (not realizing that Cap-and-Trade is an issue she had already gone on the record as being FOR in the VP debate), and rearranged some other idiot's article.

Though the article is out of Sarah's league as far as coherence goes, it still is poorly written (no facts, bad choice of words, repeating certain words several times in a short paragraph). If no name was given, I would have assumed it was written by a high school sophomore--which leads me to think it was Bristol.

16. "do we want to outsource (energy supply) it to China, Russia and Saudi Arabia?"
i believe we've been doing that for decades since the U.S. peaked. Are there any studies that say we can produce more than what we get overseas, I'd like to see them or at least the media ask for them so there can be informed opinions instead of letting the whole nation go with their gut.

though i am concerned about how high electricity prices are expected to go up under the proposed cap&trade plan. Has anyone seen those numbers?

Edited on Tue Jul-14-09 05:03 AM by ecstatic
be the target audience of this OpEd?

Independents? Independents won't believe Sarah had anything to do with this piece.

She has no shame! Days after resigning from being so overwhelmed by her duties, she has the audacity to lecture Obama?! This is just another ridiculous misstep by the Palin campaign.

-----------

Here she is answering Gwen Ifill's question about cap-and-trade during the Palin/Biden debate on October 3, 2008:

IFILL: We do need to keep within our two minutes. But I just wanted to ask you, do you support capping carbon emissions?

PALIN: I do. I do.

Capping carbon emissions is short-hand for cap-and-trade.

38. Cap and Trade would make one of Sarah's key consituencies, Big Oil, uncompetitive
The Energy Sector is heavily dependent on Government regulation. The Bush administration via Cheney's Energy Task Force realigned the regulations to favor the oil companies. Obama is removing those subsidies and re-regulating the industry.

The whole debate over oil vs green tech is analagous to the days of the industrial revolution when we were changing our energy sources from wood to coal and oil. There were plenty of people who said that we have all these forests and lots of wood, so why should we switch to these new fangled technologies.

Now, the same sort of people want us to sit on energy sources and produce products that the rest of the world DOESN'T WANT. The rest of the world is going green in a big way.

China is moving into green tech in a huge way. They see it as a strategic advantage. They are investing 2x as much money in green tech as we are. Sarah's future is not a particularly bright one that is being articulated by a not particularly bright person.
